Citizens Lorca presents in the next plenary a motion for the burial of aerial wiring in the urban area (21/03/2019)

"We ask that installation companies be required to comply with existing regulations, which obliges us to put cables underground," says Council Member Antonio Meca.

Citizens will present a motion on the elimination of aerial wiring in the urban area, especially in the historic center, at the next plenary session on the 25th.

Antonio Meca will ask that "the government team consider as a priority to invest the money that remains pending from the EIB funds, the recovery of our historic center beginning with the burial of existing aerial wiring in facades and the one that crosses the streets".

Likewise, Ciudadanos will request that the City Council demand electric and communications companies that proceed to the burial of their wiring in compliance with the existing ordinance.

There are numerous laws, directives and ordinances that require electrical and communications conduits to be underground.

However, the examples of cables along the buildings or crossing the streets are well visible in the historic center, creating an aesthetic of neglect by visual and environmental impact that should be corrected.

"It is an issue of complex solution that, little by little, we must address" says the councilor.

"We dragged the problem for years because many facilities that were made provisionally, have ended up becoming final."

The Municipal Citizens Group considers that there is already a law that promotes the burying of this electrical wiring and that, therefore, must be met.

Mecca believes that these situations "not only convey an image of carelessness and lack of care in a city with a significant historic center, but also pose an aggression to citizens."

This motion is intended to develop a feasibility study to proceed to the burial of all the overhead wiring of Lorca involving the majority incumbent operators of underground infrastructure through appropriate agreements or agreements, while a plan for burial is drawn up of the wiring in several annual phases for its execution, which includes both the city center and the neighborhoods, always according to the specifications of the technical study carried out.
