Diego José Mateos: "Culture, heritage and tourism have to be an essential engine for Lorca and not remain undervalued" (02/04/2019)

Mateos is committed to linking the councils of culture, heritage and tourism, and to promote Lorca Taller del Tiempo as a large consortium that develops and coordinates an integral strategy, which includes the city of the sun as regional cultural and tourist capital, at the height of Murcia and Cartagena

The candidate for Mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos has ensured that, from the municipal government, will promote a comprehensive strategy that brings together the cultural, heritage and tourism, in order to build, based on these axes "an essential engine of social growth and economic for Lorca, currently underutilized ".

"Our SOL project proposes solutions to value tourism, culture and heritage, where our strategic commitment to the revitalization of the historic center will be fundamental".

To do so, Mateos is committed to promoting Lorca Taller del Tiempo: "This is an essential, necessary instrument, but one that is currently underused." Lorca Taller del Tiempo must leave the exclusive area of ​​Castillo and La Merced, and grow at the pace that it was done by consortiums such as Cartagena Puerto de Culturas ".

Mateos assures that "cultural heritage has been, for many cities, like Cartagena, a vehicle for the development of the territories", and in Lorca, he assures "we have sufficient resources to grow based on this potential, currently, I insist, underutilized "

The candidate for mayor advocates linking the councils of culture, heritage and tourism, and to promote at the same time a coordinated strategy through Lorca Taller del Tiempo.

"We must optimize resources, and that means making more efficient use, more effective, and even more so when they are scarce, as is the case today".

"We have to be able to offer a seasonally-oriented cultural and leisure offer, 365 days a year, and for that we must optimize the existing resources and expand the coordination between the cultural, tourism and heritage sectors."

Mateos assures that Lorca has to go from being a stagnant city to becoming a living city.

"Lorca has to be Lorca again, escape from the resignation in which we find ourselves, from the cultural and tourist lethargy, and resurface through the patrimonial, cultural and tourist wealth that we have, and that must be the obligation of the administrations, to put in value ".

Lorca Taller del Tiempo has to be the engine and the tourist brand of the city: "we are going to develop a global strategy, which prioritizes the establishment of a sustainable environment for the management of tourist and cultural resources, which advances in the recovery and in value of our urban environments, in the creation of an ambitious and continuous cultural offer over time, and all this, to position the image of Lorca in the cultural tourism market, as the third largest city in the Region, at the height of Murcia and Cartagena ".
