The headquarters of the Department of Health of the City of Lorca has hosted this morning the presentation of the various events that will be held in our city during the month of May the Association Affiliate on the occasion of the International Day of Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Syndrome Chronicle, which is celebrated on May 12.
The events will begin on May 8 at 6 pm at the Teatro Guerra with the screening of the film "La vida de Frida Kahlo", a feature film directed by Julie Taymor and showing a timely biography of the great Mexican artist with a brilliant interpretation of Salma Hayek, which aims to raise awareness about the effects of permanent pain in people's lives.
On May 9 will take place, from 17:30 hours, at the Cultural Center Mayor José María Campoy three informative lectures given by various experts who will discuss the following topics: "Fibromyalgia and physiotherapy" (María del Mar González González, physiotherapist ), "Fibromyalgia: I do believe you" (Dr. Ana Belén Salguero Merino, family doctor) and "The disease of 1001 unknowns" (Dr. Fulgencio T. Martínez Pelegrín, specialist in otorhinolaryngology).
The Assembly Hall of the Casa de las Oenegés will host on May 17 at 8 pm also an informative conference on the medical-social problem of fibromyalgia that will be taught by Dr. Francisco Javier Hidalgo Tallón, a graduate in medicine and surgery at the University of Granada.
The activities will end on May 22 with another talk at the Casa de las Oenegés at 6 pm that will focus on the essential nutrients in fibromyalgia and will be carried out by the nutritionist Angélica Aragón.
In addition, Afilor will install during the whole month of May in the Parque Almenara Shopping Center informative tables where they will offer information and informative documentation in order to raise awareness in society about the issues surrounding this disease.
In addition, the volunteers of the same will collect small economic contributions in exchange for solidarity bracelets to show their interest and concern for all people affected by this disease.
Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease that is characterized by long-lasting pain in muscles and joints throughout the body, which often interferes with the daily and daily tasks of people suffering from this condition.
Currently the cause of this disease is unknown and there is no curative treatment, although it affects approximately 5% of the population, - being more common in women than in men and can also appear in children.
From the City we show our unconditional support and maintain a very close collaboration with this group, as with all those who exercise their activity in the municipality.
Likewise, we encourage citizens to participate in these activities and we appeal to the generosity of Lorca to collaborate with this NGO that helps, favors and integrates patients suffering from fibromyalgia.
