The children's education students from 33 schools of the municipality participate in the environmental awareness campaign "Lorca in Spring" (08/05/2019)

The Pérez de Hita school, in the neighborhood of La Viña, has been the starting point of this initiative, and we have proceeded to plant a specimen of carob tree that replaces the one that was knocked down by the wind a few weeks ago.

The municipal campaign to promote environmental education "Lorca in Spring", which will be developed in the coming weeks, will reach all children's education students of the 33 schools in the municipality of Lorca.

It is an initiative that the City Council has been developing annually in coincidence with the arrival of these months.

In this way, the distribution of these students will be carried out by the municipal parks and gardens of a total of 3,500 plants, specifically of the Begonia type, of different shades.

The children will have to take care of them in their homes, and they will be informed in their respective educational centers about the importance of taking care of the environment, respecting the green areas of our city and preserving nature.

The campaign began this morning at the Pérez de Hita school, in the neighborhood of La Viña, where the students have received their plants, and they have proceeded to plant a copy of Algarrobo, a tree that replaces the one that was knocked down by the strong wind a few weeks ago, and which was an icon for the educational community of the center.

We must point out that in the last year the City Council has planted more than 2,630 trees in our municipality, an action developed in collaboration with the different neighborhood associations and social groups of the city through the different activities that are carried out coexistence and environmental education, as well as in the days of tree planting that are organized throughout the year.

During 2018, the type specimens that have been planted correspond to typical species of our region such as orange, pine, mulberry, ficus, carob, holm oaks, wild olive trees, reaching more than thirty species.

Its distribution includes areas such as Castillo, Parque Casa Mata, Cabezo de las Palas, San Roque neighborhood, Women's Park, Nuevo Mundo Urbanization, Puente Gimeno Park, Musso Valiente street, Donantes de Sangre street, Ronda Sur, Fernanda street Zabalduru, Barrio San Fernando, Juan Carlos I Avenue, Espina Pomares Street, Alameda de Menchirón, Alameda de Cervantes, Alamedas de Lorca, La Viña, as well as in the districts of Rio, Avilés, Zarzadilla de Totana, La Hoya, Marchena, La Torrecilla and Purias (Torre del Obispo Urbanization), among other locations.

It should be remembered that the workers of the Department of Parks and Gardens carry out throughout the year in our municipality tasks of irrigation, mowing and profiling of grass, fertilization, aeration, scarification and replanting of grass, interbedded, raking, weeding and elimination of Weeds, preservation of the structure of the existing plant elements, conservation of the trees, maintenance of the irrigation network, replenishment, pruning, shrub trimming, ornamentation of squares and gardens, as well as cleaning of these areas, among others.
