IU prioritizes investment in education as the economic engine of the city (14/05/2019)

Pedro Sosa, councilor for Izquierda Unida Verdes in the city of Lorca, and Antonio Martínez Arboleda, Professor of Hispanic Studies at the University of Leeds, have bet this morning for the implementation of more university degrees in the Campus of Lorca, as an impetus for the local economy and the revitalization of the city.

Sosa has described Martinez Arboleda as one of the many talents that we form in our country, but those who only have the emigration to develop their skills, so it is necessary to implement urgent measures to return.

"We can not afford to continue losing these generations of highly qualified young people, if we want to match the countries of northern Europe," said the mayor.

For his part, Martinez Arboleda, who had the intention to be part of the local candidacy of IU for the upcoming municipal elections, but to reside abroad the electoral law makes it impossible, has begun regretting that the large number of bureaucratic obstacles to make the vote from abroad, causes only about 10% of Spanish emigrants get to vote.

For example, he has only been able to do it for the autonomic ones.

"Not even with three careers is it possible to understand all the steps to follow, they seem to want to keep quiet."

Martinez has declared himself in love with Lorca and is saddened to see the decline in which he finds himself, since he lacks investments and those that have been carried out have often been wasteful without meaning.

In order to revitalize the city that saw it grow, it is essential, in his opinion, to promote the underutilized university campus, starting by correcting the deterioration that it presents both in facades, as in its open spaces, attracting more university institutions, training schools and projects. research related to our productive fabric.

"Investment in education is highly productive, since it generates knowledge and development, depending only on the primary sector and with the deteriorated industrial fabric, we will have a bleak future"
