Izquierda Unida encourages the 380 nurses from Lorca to go to their school and the unions to defend themselves from an "infamous" OPE (15/05/2019)

Gloria Martin has also explained the priorities of their training in health, which go to work for the construction of a new hospital and reconvert Rafael Méndez in a residence and hospital specialized in Geriatrics, linked to the development of the University Campus of Lorca in order to make room for new teaching and research activities

15.05.19 Gloria Martín, councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes and number two of the candidacy with which this formation attends the municipal elections of May 26, today expressed its solidarity with more than 380 Lorca nurses that the Last Sunday they had to face an "insane" exam, corresponding to the public offer of employment (OPE) of Nursing.

Martín regretted that the Murciano Health Service (SMS) has agreed to carry out a test plagued by ambiguous questions that were not even included in the syllabus, poorly translated from English, far from clinical practice and that do not allow to assess the ability of aspirants who have been performing their functions for years with professionalism and efficiency in hospitals and public health centers throughout the Region and Lorca.

"Those professionals had been preparing for this moment for years, investing money, effort and time with the hope of being able to normalize their situation of interim or eventuality, since for years the SMS has not produced a decent OPE", explained Martín.

And, nevertheless, they have found what Martin has considered a "scam".

The most obvious proof of this is that 75% of the examinees would not have passed a grade of 3.3, and 50% would be below 2.75.

"This is not because of the lack of preparation of our nurses, but because the SMS has raised an examination that has nothing to do with those made in other autonomous communities and has been primed with them."

Martin has contacted the Official College of Nursing of the Region of Murcia that has transferred that "will not leave their collegiate helpless and provide legal assistance they need", so it has encouraged those affected to resort him and the unions.

Meanwhile, the Region of Murcia, and especially Area III of Health is at the tail of Europe in number of nurses per inhabitant.

"We have half the number of nurses available, for example, Navarre for every thousand inhabitants, and we are below the average for countries like Latvia," said Martín.

This causes the nursing staff to work "piecework" both at the Rafael Méndez university hospital and at the health centers of the municipality where the lack of human resources is alarming.

Martin has expressed that if they have the opportunity to govern in Lorca from next May 26, they will be especially demanding and vindictive with the Regional Government, in everything that has to be with an essential public service such as Health.

His priorities will also be the construction of the new Health Center in the San Cristóbal neighborhood and the "Lorca Centro" Health Center, and the completion of the Santa Rosa de Lima remodeling works to fulfill the function of an important Health Center. Specialties.

In addition, it will urge the regional administration for the continued opening of the medical offices of the districts in the months of July and August, and because the peripheral centers are served by their own staff, in order not to reduce the service of health centers from the urban center when they move their staff to peripherals in the summer.

IU-Greens will also vindicate the figure of the social worker as an essential agent within primary care in health centers and will create the Municipal Health Council, which should serve as a channel for the analysis of health care problems in the municipality, the solution proposals and their prioritization.

Martín highlighted, like other of the most important proposals of the IU-Verdes electoral program, the beginning of the political negotiations and the administrative, urban, and budgetary procedures required to carry out the construction of a new regional hospital in the Carraclaca area.

"We believe that Rafael Méndez, who has practically no possibilities of expansion, could be converted into a residence and hospital specialized in Geriatrics, which will be a pressing need in the coming years to provide social and health coverage to the elderly, given the aging of the population, "he said.

This could also give a new impetus to the University Campus of Lorca so that it can accommodate new teaching and research activities.
