The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, has obtained a grant from the European Union that will allow to provide free and free access to the Internet through WiFi technology in different enclaves throughout the municipality.

It is a project that has been working with maximum effort from the City at the express request of the Mayor.

This morning we have heard that we have achieved it, Lorca being one of only 5 municipalities in our region that has been awarded this grant.

Since this achievement has been known, Fulgencio Gil has conveyed his congratulations to the municipal technicians of the Department of the Information Society, as well as to its responsible councilor, Francisco García, who had been making so much effort in this regard over the years. of the last months.

He has asked you, from this moment, to begin the precise planning to start up this new service for the citizens as soon as possible.

We must bear in mind that the European Union's aid has to be allocated to the acquisition of the necessary technological means, and the City Council, for its part, will assume the payment of the rates and other issues related to this plan.

Fulgencio Gil has advanced that the goal that has been marked in this sense is to start the free internet service both in districts and in different parts of the urban area.

In the first case, access to this technology is seen as a valuable tool to contribute to its progress and development, following the joint work that the Mayor has been maintaining with the associative fabric of our districts, a task that today receives a the best news of the last times, and that constituted a joint priority for all.

In the urban area, work is being carried out on the start-up of this service from municipal buildings, as established by the legislation on the matter, which is mandatory for the City Council.

Thus, the objective is to establish this free WIFI service from Teatro Guerra (plazas de Colón and Calderón), Cultural Center, City Hall / Tourism Office (Plaza de España), Archaeological Museum (Plazas Juan Moreno and Virgen de la Amargura), Centro Civic of the San Diego neighborhood (Plaza de Curtidores), in addition to possible extensions that are already being considered.

This measure is integrated into the Social, Cultural and Commercial Revolution that the Mayor, Fulgencio Gil, is already implementing in Lorca, and that is allowing to take advantage of the management capacity and the new infrastructures obtained during the reconstruction process, to energize our city, turning it into the true Jewel of the Southeast.
