An investment of 504,130.09 € from the Regional Government of the PP allows to renovate Charco Street and open a new access for all the residents of the area (24/05/2019)

• This project is in addition to the construction of a new park after the demolition of a degraded apple and the intervention approved in Portijico street, where the land will be secured and a green area with vertical garden will be located.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, has supervised this morning the works that are being executed in the Barrio de San Cristóbal, and that include the urban renewal of Charco y Adyacentes street, as well as the improvement of accessibility between the streets Ingeniero Agustín Betancourt and Mayor Pelegrín Rodríguez.

These are actions that add to the most ambitious urban intervention that has been implemented in the neighborhood, with the elimination of an apple of degraded buildings, which gives way to a park of more than 1,000 m2 between the streets Eulogio Periago, Juan Mínguez, Blessed Pedro Soler as well as the integral arrangement of the street Portijico, where the existing retaining wall will be consolidated and the annexed plot will become a green area with a vertical garden, following the request of the neighbors themselves.

As for Charco Street, € 457,517.59 is invested.

The works in progress allow to provide the residents with a rainwater collector that gives continuity to the existing ones in the high zones of the San Cristóbal neighborhood and the Mayor street, and connects them directly to the Guadalentín river channel thanks to the construction of a street of new opening.

It must be taken into account in the street Charco is 80 cm lower than the adjacent parallel streets (Calle Mayor and Ingeniero Betancourt Street) and almost 2 meters from San Fernando Street, so that before any rain had been accumulating accumulations of rain.

On the other hand, the waste networks are also connected to a collector that runs through the river to the Lorca WWTP.

Up to now, an old irrigation canal was used, with no slope and partially flooded, for rainwater evacuation, also going through its interior waste collectors that lacked the appropriate section and slope.

To do this, they had to make 2 microtunnels, at a depth of 3.5 meters, which crosses San Fernando Street and connect these collectors with the Guadalentín River.

The area of action has an area of 3.955 m², raised on a single level with asphalt agglomerate roadway and sidewalks with prefabricated concrete curb.

The services installed have been:

- 560 meters of sanitary sewer with diameters between 315 and 500 mm.

- 430 meters of rain collector with diameters between 400 and 630 mm.

- 150 mm diameter ductile cast iron supply network.

- Replacement of supply and sanitation connections to homes.

- Public lighting with more efficient LED technology with 37 points of light.

- Networks for electric power, telecommunications and natural gas pipelines

- Signage, litter bins and bollards.

The construction of new access to Ingeniero Betancourt Street is intended to unite the entire area of San Diego with the Calle Mayor Pelegrín, in compliance with the request made by the Mayor himself.

The work consists of stairs and ramp accessible to people with reduced mobility, saving the difference between the two streets with an accessible ramp.

For its finish, natural materials from the area have been used, similar to those existing in the Puente Viejo del Barrio, in flooring and stair treads.

It entails a total investment of € 42,612.50.

In recent years over a hundred streets in the neighborhood of San Cristobal, have been the subject of investments, which include the integral improvement of the Calle Mayor and Ortega Melgares (715,000 euros), as well as Eulogio Periago (712,000 €) including the latter in a 7.5 million injection for the integral arrangement of a battery of 58 streets.

In addition to the indicated, other municipal works have allowed the improvement of other 46 streets in the same neighborhood.

Work has also been carried out to improve the Plaza de las Hortalizas, thanks to an investment of 23,400 euros by the General Directorate of Trade of CARM.
