City Council and FOMLorca launch the project "Opening doors, closing taboos", aimed at students in schools in our town (06/06/2019)

The purpose of these workshops, which are subsidized by the State Pact against Gender Violence through the Department of Equality, is to address in a natural way the implementation and development of educational processes that promote the comprehensive education of teenagers and young people

The Councilor for Equality of the City of Lorca, Juan Francisco Martínez, and the president of the Federation of Women's Organizations of Lorca, Pilar Fernández, presented this morning the project "Opening doors, closing taboos", aimed at high school students and the last primary cycle with the aim of encouraging the construction of emotional relationships free of violence.

The purpose of these workshops, which are subsidized by the State Pact against Gender Violence through the Department of Equality, is to address in a natural way the implementation and development of educational processes that promote the comprehensive education of adolescents and young people, even their parents.

The final objective of the affective-sexual education is to encourage the students to be trained so that throughout their lives they can develop a healthy sexuality experience.

For this, they must be positively assumed as sexed beings, adequately understand the human sexual fact, cultivate an ethics for interpersonal relationships and acquire skills for the construction of healthy, satisfying, responsible and non-discriminatory relationships based on gender or sexual orientation, together with Avoid violence to all kinds of people.

Regarding the objectives promoted by this workshop in the secondary education institutes, the analysis of the socialization process, identifying stereotypes and gender roles, the development of a critical attitude towards the heteropatriarchal society, the identification of the different sexual orientations and facilitating the individual sexual identity, the prevention of toxic relationships in adolescence, analyzing the inequalities that originate them and, finally, information and prevention of sexually transmitted infections in the young population.

With the students of primary education, the aim is to work on social skills as a tool to improve relationships between people, make visible the inequalities between women and men in our society, know the causes of the acquisition of roles differentiated by gender, analyze the role of stories and toys in the promotion of sexist stereotypes, raise awareness of the importance of a balanced distribution of domestic tasks, foster respectful relationships where affectivity predominates and respectful treatment and raise awareness about diversity in the family models that we find today.

Juan Francisco Martínez stressed that "from the City of Lorca we want to thank the educational centers of our municipality their predisposition to participate in this project and, above all, the Federation of Women's Organizations of Lorca to start up This program is so beneficial for the young people of our municipality, FomLorca is once again an example of defending the rights of equal opportunities, so we encourage this association to continue developing in our town this type of activities that contribute to strengthen the welfare of all our citizens, especially the youngest ones ".
