The Councilor for Tourism of the City of Lorca, Francisco Montiel, reported this morning that Lorca Taller del Tiempo, in collaboration with the Spanish Association for the Protection of Butterflies and their Environment (ZERYNTHIA) and the Iberian Society for the Study and Conservation of the Ecosystems (SIECE), have launched an initiative to promote development and raise in freedom of the butterflies present in the wild in our environment.
Francisco Montiel explained that "the" Oasis of Butterflies "form a network throughout the national territory, in permanent growth, butterflies, besides being one of the most beautiful species of the animal kingdom are excellent indicators of the environmental quality of the place where they inhabit. "
The Councilor for Tourism added that "this initiative promotes the use of native plant species that allow the butterflies to feed on both their leaves (during the caterpillar phase) and their flowers (the adult butterflies) In the Oasis Castillo de Lorca , the spontaneous vegetation of the Fortaleza del Sol habitat is combined with other plant species specially planted to serve as food for the different larval stages and adult butterflies.This zone has plants such as Quercus rotundifolia, Dorycnium pentaphyllum, Rhamnus lycioides, Rosmarinus officinalis , Pistacia lentiscus, Hedera helix, Lavandula dentata, especially appetizing for butterflies ".
Montiel has indicated that "the culture of butterflies implies another vision from the point of view of the ornamental gardening, having to assume the presence of caterpillars and the one of plants of more natural appearance, neglected or damaged, due to its use as food in the larval phase ".
