The action, possible thanks to a grant to the General Directorate of Cultural Assets of the Autonomous Community within the actions of the Master Plan for the rehabilitation of the Cultural Heritage of Lorca, will close "the scars" caused by the 2011 earthquakes.

The historical organ of the San Francisco Church will close "the scars" caused by the 2011 earthquakes thanks to the restoration work that the famous Portuguese organ builder Dinarte Machado and his four assistants have already begun to perform.

The organ, of Baroque origin, dates from the first half of S. XVIII and is unique in the city of Lorca since the others were destroyed during the Civil War.

With its 6 meters high and made of polychrome pine wood and coriada silver, its upper part is decorated with the emblem of the arch-fraternity of Vera Cruz and Sangre de Cristo.

The keyboard, also made of pine, is plated in bone color, the holders are walnut covered with ebony and has 1094 sound pipes.

After being submitted to a long restoration carried out from 2006 to 2009, thanks to the Plan of Restoration of Historical Organs of the Region of Murcia, it returned to sound in May of that year.

In 2011, when the earthquakes that shook the city caused serious damage to the organ.

In particular, the partial rupture of the inner tubes, bellows and valves and the general mismatch of the parts.

Now, the restoration of this lorquina jewel has been entrusted to the master Dinarte Machado who will carry out the repair of the bellows, the wind pipes, the valves and resonators;

the treatment of labial tubes and tongue;

the adjustment of the mechanics of the keyboard and the registers as well as the final tuning.

A possible action thanks to the grant, with a total amount of 12,000 euros, granted by the General Directorate of Cultural Assets of the Autonomous Community within the actions of the Master Plan for the rehabilitation of the Cultural Heritage of Lorca.

An important initiative framed within the rehabilitation works put in place by the Hermandad de Labradores and the Paso Azul Foundation with the aim of completing the recovery and enhancement of the Blue Heritage and the Monumental Complex of San Francisco.

A total recovery that will come with the restoration of the historic baroque altarpieces located in the Church of San Francisco, the most important preserved in the Region of Murcia.

The Choir of the Church of San Francisco, religious seat of the Brotherhood of Labradors Paso Azul, where the monumental instrument is located, has been the framework chosen to present the intervention of Dinarte Machado to which the president of Paso Azul has assisted, José María Miñarro;

the General Director of Cultural Assets of the Region of Murcia, Juan Antonio Lorca;
