• This is an initiative that includes the petition on the matter raised by the residents of Rio in the regular working meetings that has been maintained by the Lorca PP with the extensive associative fabric enjoyed by our municipality.

The council of Citizen Participation of the Popular Group in the City of Lorca, Mari Huertas García, reported that the Popular Party supports the request of residents of the district of Rio relative to recover one of the traditional enclaves of this council, as is the concrete case of the popularly known as "El Salto".

It is a water infrastructure executed within a large package of works for the use of irrigation water and dated in 1933.

It is an example of the culture of water that we believe would be useful for both current generations of Lorca and future are aware of the enormous work of innovation that have been carried out in Lorca over the years with the objective of sharing the limited water resources with which we had.

We propose this initiative on the basis that it is a project that is born precisely from the proposal of the residents of the area, who do not want to miss an infrastructure with which you feel identified.

We are aware that, due to the passage of time and the change in the systems of distribution and improvement of water flows for irrigation, "El Salto" has lost its functionality, but at the same time we also support the initiative of the residents of the parish, that they consider opportune to restrain the deterioration that is undergoing, to avoid a greater degradation and to do of the necessity to maintain this work in conditions an occasion to put it in value.

From the PP we support the neighborhood approach that also points out that this district has few places of interest of this type, so they ask us not to miss the opportunity to convert "El Salto" into an element in condition to be visited and preserved .

We are talking about an element that was part of the so-called "Canal de Aguas Claras", an infrastructure executed during the first half of the 20th century to communicate the vessel of Puentes Reservoir directly with Casa Mata, in the San Diego neighborhood.

It had the objective of making even more profitable the water coming from the swamp that was destined to irrigate the garden of the municipality, avoiding the losses by evaporation that were registered in the open conduits.

The channeling, which began to run in 1929, passed by the right bank of the Guadalentín River to the Rambla of the 17 arches, from where it crossed the bed to the left bank.

The mentioned Canal de Aguas Claras had a total of 3 jumps;

one in Los Cautivos, another in La Mina and the one we want to recover located in La Ribera.

This engineering work was an innovation in Lorca's water history, and we propose that it be added to the important elements that we have in our municipality related to water, such as the Molino del Escarambrujo, the Mata House, the Sangradores del river, in addition to the great works of the reservoirs of Puentes and Valdeinfierno, as main bastions of the water culture.

The PP has advanced that it will raise this issue in the next session of the Plenary Session of the City Council, proposing to the Consistory the search for funding to materialize this initiative, either through funds from public administrations or even public-private collaboration.
