The Spokesman of the Popular Group in the City Council of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, has welcomed the opening to road traffic of a definitive form of the access road to the castle of our city through the area of ​​Murviedro, which connects the area of ​​the Fortress of the sun with the neighborhood of San José.
The objective of this action, financed entirely by the Regional Government of Lorca Fernando Lopez Miras, is to enable optimal driving and improve the accessibility and security conditions to this tourist and cultural area so important for the municipality, so it has achieved a expansion of the road and the rock massif of the slope of the castle has stabilized in its slope towards the road of La Parroquia.
Fulgencio Gil, who supervised the intervention on site this morning, said that "the importance of this action is especially relevant and of maximum utility, since, among other improvements, the ascent and extension of the alternative access for ascent and descent has been paved and widened. to the castle through Murviedro and towards the San José neighborhood, which also reinforces security in case of emergency, in particular, the expansion of the current south access road, which has a length of 1.3 kilometers and that reaches a maximum width of six meters ".

Gil stressed that thanks to the commitment of Fernando López Miras and the Popular Party, we are improving the communications network that is the backbone of our municipality.

This new 1.3 kilometer road facilitates the arrival of tourists to the fortress and the National Parador that connects with the San José neighborhood through the Murviedro area, while the current road has been repaired.
They have also secured the slopes of the road in its slope to the road that links to the parish, which are formed by rocky massifs that sometimes cause landslides on the road and prevent access to the castle.
The Ministry of the Presidency and Development has invested in these works more than 1.2 million euros, including the remodeling of the access road and ring road to the castle of Lorca
This intervention has included the installation of vertical and horizontal signs along the entire road, bionda protective barriers for drivers and anti-glare screens in the section parallel to the A-7.
The works have contemplated the conditioning of the existing road to repair the deterioration and deformations that make the vehicles difficult to pass and the extension of the platform, in order to adapt it to the level of traffic that it currently supports.
The current access road to the castle has also been resurfaced in a section of 1.61 kilometers and its signage and drainage have been improved.
