Councilwoman Gloria Martín, accompanied by the coordinator of Izquierda Joven Lorca, Chechu Muñoz, has requested the implementation in the City of the Sun of the 'Edusex' program, of the Ministry of Health, and has requested the opening of an information point to answer questions Individuals during non-school hours and for the free distribution of condoms
The councilor of the United Left-Greens, Gloria Martín, has asked that 'Edusex', a pioneer program in the autonomous community on emotional and sexual health for adolescents that also prevents discrimination and gender violence, be developed in the Institutes of Education Lorca high school.
In her appearance she has been accompanied by Chuechu Muñoz, coordinator of Izquierda Joven Lorca.
The project is intended to train and inform young people between 12 and 16 years to promote healthy sexual habits and behaviors in adolescence, and is already carried out successfully in municipalities such as Cieza thanks to the close collaboration of its City Council.
Martín has affirmed that adolescence is an essential stage in the development of sexual identity and in the beginning of sexual and affective relationships, and recalled that in the Region the beginning of coital relations is around 14 years, so "we must carry out policies that prevent both sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies."
In this regard, he recalled that the Region of Murcia has a rate of 10.99 voluntary interruptions of pregnancy per 1,000 women, the sixth nationwide.
"We are concerned that the abortion rate is picking up after a decade of decline," said Martin, who warned that the notion of risk in unprotected relationships has also declined among young people, which has led to an increase in disease infections sexually transmitted such as syphilis, gonorrhea or HIV.
Therefore, Martín explained that in addition to prevention strategies related to health education, from the administrations, access to contraceptive methods should be promoted in an easy way.
In that sense, the mayor of IU has requested that, within the Edusex program, Lorca has an information point to attend individual consultations during non-school hours and for the free distribution of condoms.
The coordinator of Izquierda Joven Lorca, Chechu Muñoz, has lamented that there are parties that are advocating "sexual abstinence" while closing their eyes to reality.
"It seems unfortunate that some intend to impose a Catholic national morality that is a scare in the 21st century," said Muñoz.
"Sex among young people is a reality, and criminalizing awareness campaigns to be practiced without risk is a political irresponsibility," he said.
"We believe that it is better to have safe and responsible sexual relations, showing respect for our health and that of the couple, than to suffer an STD or be in the position of having to abort," he concluded.
