The Socialist Party of the Region of Murcia meets in Lorca to prepare a working document that fights against depopulation (29/08/2019)

The meeting has taken place in the municipal shelter of Coy and she has attended Diego José Mateos, Mayor of Lorca;

The Secretary General of the Socialist Party in Lorca and Mayor of the city, Diego José Mateos, met this morning with the General Secretary of the PSRM and spokesman for the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Diego Conesa, regional and national deputies;

members of the regional Executive;

the secretary of Small Municipalities of the Federal Executive of the PSOE and Mayor of Calasparra, José Vélez, mayors and socialist municipal spokespersons of small municipalities of the Region in the House of Casa Grande of the Lorca de Coy district to talk about the problem of depopulation .

Mateos explained that "the reason for this meeting is a sharing of all the municipalities affected by this problem that is occurring in our fields and thus get to collect proposals and alternatives and prepare a working document for the Socialist Party of the Region Murcia can take the corresponding initiatives to the Regional Assembly and do all those necessary work to curb a problem that many are not yet aware but that has been taking place for a long time and that is deteriorating the life and development of the populations, especially in the interior of the Region ".

The First Edil of Lorca said that "it is about collecting proposals and initiatives that have been taken and developed in each municipality so that, in those cases that can be exported, these solutions are used. A coordination task that covers both to the municipalities and to the Region of Murcia itself and, therefore, it becomes a regional problem that must be tackled from the point of view of the Regional Executive. "

Mateos Molina detailed that "in the case of Lorca, the most affected districts would be Coy, Doña Inés, La Paca, Zarzadilla de Totana or La Parroquia. Pedanías that, traditionally, have had a stable population but from a few years to this part the depopulation has been gradual and the census in these districts has been decreasing considerably and it is essential to tackle the situation and put all possible measures to avoid that the youngest have to leave these places to find work outside. "

The Mayor of Lorca recalled that "several months ago a work table was generated, this is called the Depopulation Table in which neighborhood associations, environmental, irrigation communities participated ... in short, all the associative fabric of the high districts of Lorca There is an elaborated document that we will transfer to the party at the regional level for analysis and it is a work that not only the administrations must carry out but also the population and the associative fabric have to go hand in hand to, in a coordinated way, stop depopulation. "

Diego Conesa's attendance at this meeting is "one more proof that we have the support of the Socialist Party of the Region of Murcia to work to ensure the health of our municipalities in this very worrying aspect," said Mateos, who also thanked the mayors and socialist representatives of the municipalities of the Region of Murcia to attend the Depopulation Bureau, a depopulation that, he said, "especially affects the region of the north of Lorca and the northwest of the Region."
