The Mayor of Lorca meets this afternoon with emergency personnel and municipal services in anticipation of torrential rains (11/09/2019)

The meeting will assess the possibility of suspending classes in schools in the municipality due to the red alert issued by the State Meteorological Agency.

The Mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, announces the holding of an emergency meeting with all the emergency personnel and municipal services of Lorca on the occasion of the forecast of torrential rains in the coming days.

Mateos has informed that "we are going to meet this afternoon with the heads of Limusa, Aguas de Lorca, Local Police and Emergencies to coordinate all necessary precautionary measures in case of heavy rains alerted from the State Meteorological Agency ".

The First Edil stressed that "from the Segura Hydrographic Confederation during the summer, several channels have been cleaned, such as the Rambla de Los Arcos located on the Caravaca Highway, and what we are going to be prepared before the possibility that the forecast of torrential rains or any other type of emergency that can happen in the next days is fulfilled ".

"Unfortunately, here we have experience, we know the damage that these torrential rains can cause since the problem is not the amount of water that is collected but the short time in which it does and, therefore, we will be very attentive" , informed the Mayor.

Mateos Molina has made "a call to responsibility and social awareness so that unnecessary risks are not taken such as crossing water drains and following the recommendations that are being given through official profiles on the social networks of the City Council, Police and Emergencies and that together we put our grain of sand so that this cold drop produces the least possible damage both personal and material. "

In addition, the Mayor of Lorca recalled that "it is also necessary to think about the districts that are most affected when these types of rains occur, such as Campillo, La Torrecilla, Purias or Parrilla, areas in which some have begun embryonic actions for the capture of water in the upper part of the ramblas that are in that area ".

That is why Mateos has asked for "caution to all neighbors" and has guaranteed that "they have the assurance that all municipal services in Lorca are the maximum alert to act immediately if necessary under any circumstance."

Diego José Mateos reported that "it is a meeting in which we will coordinate the actions and decisions to be carried out, such as the possibility of suspending classes in schools in the municipality, before the alert issued by Aemet that establishes in maximum alert, torrential rains, from tomorrow, Thursday, September 12 at 6 in the morning and until Friday, September 13 at 12 at night with possible accumulations of water up to 70 mm in one hour, especially during the second half of Thursday and early Friday morning.
