IU-V asks for explanations on the facade of the Palace of Guevara (20/09/2019)

The stone-carved facade of the Palace suffers the "evil of empty scaffolding"

The main facade of the Palacio de Guevara returns to the political debate.

Pedro Sosa, Spokesman of the Municipal Group of IU-V in the City of Lorca, wants to know the reasons why this unique element of the cultural heritage of Lorca is hidden behind a huge wooden box, without anyone working for months she, and has also been interested in the responsibility of the companies that have intervened in its restoration, taking the money and worsening the state of such a unique element.

Sosa recalled that the property, declared in 2008 of Cultural Interest with the category of monument, is, as outlined in the decree of his statement, "one of the most outstanding examples of the civil Baroque of the Spanish east."

This cataloging contrasts, it is not the first time we say it, with the quality and effectiveness of the restorations to which the Palace's facade has been subjected in recent years.

In the middle of the last century, a first intervention was carried out on the facade that wanted to tackle the building's moisture problems, replacing part of the building's basement with a less porous stone than the original.

It was a good intervention that contrasts without a doubt with the last two or three carried out in the property.

Almost two decades ago, the facade was subjected to a second intervention.

A company that arrived from Cartagena simply placed a scaffold on the cover of the property, which remained for more than a year covering it without any type of work, so that in two days, workers arriving from Cartagena would give it a coat of paint, and Your company, after charging a pastón of the moment, will leave.

Four years ago, within the Master Plan for the Restoration of the Historical Heritage of Lorca, the Ferrovial company in UTE with another company, was awarded the restoration of the Guevara Palace with a budget of more than € 587,000.

Again, the scaffolding is put on, which remains empty most of the time, the works are done in a few days and the money is taken, and three years later, that important facade once again presents pathologies such as the alveolization of the stone and accelerated sandblasting as a result of moisture, which were not adequately addressed in the building restoration process.

Pathologies that have been affecting significant elements of the ornamental iconography of the same and that have made a new company, in this case Lorquimur, return to undertake restoration work on it.

Once again the scaffolding is put in, four days are intervened and the technicians and workers disappear without anyone knowing what they have done, what the result is and why the facade continues to be hidden from view of Lorca and tourists.

Sosa says that the works that are undertaken in a Palace that is owned by the City of Lorca, must be supervised by local governments and they must demand responsibilities from contracted companies when their work has been deficient.

We want to know what is happening with the last work, we want to have all the reports of the cultural public administration, we want to know who has supervised the latest interventions and we want a public power that does not shake your legs to demand responsibilities.

So we will let the Councilor of Culture and the Mayor of Lorca know in the next Municipal Plenary.
