The mayor of Lorca asks "do not punish the Guadalentín Valley and the Vega Media (18/12/2019)

Diego José Mateos has requested a meeting with the Secretary of State for the Environment to show his disagreement about the non-approval of a new water transfer for irrigation.

The mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, has expressed his disagreement with the ministerial decision not to carry out a water transfer for irrigation because of the bad practices developed in the Mar Menor.

Mateos has announced that "from the City of Lorca we want to show our deepest disagreement with the justification that the Ministry of Environment has given for not approving the transfer of water for irrigation in this month of December."

The First Edil said he did not understand "the relationship of the situation of the Mar Menor with that of the other areas that are irrigated by the Tajo-Segura transfer" and has requested that "the Guadalentín Valley and the Vega Media not be punished for the bad uses and bad practices that have been in the Mar Menor for years. "

Mateos Molina has reported "this morning, I have formally requested a meeting with the Secretary of State for the Environment to show him this disagreement and to ask him that in the future it is not possible to justify the non-sending of water for irrigation with the actions of the Mar Menor ".

The mayor of Lorca has reiterated "our deepest disagreement and we will send it through that formal meeting that, as I say, we have requested the Ministry of Environment, the Secretary of State so that in the future it will not be repeated, that is, to distinguish between the uses of the Mar Menor and the rest of the Region of Murcia, especially the Guadalentín Valley ".

"It has been transferring water all these months but we do not want to think that in the future this justified water stops arriving for the Guadalentín Valley. There have been other times in which we have accumulated up to nine months without unpacking, but due to other issues and in this we are not going to share nor are we going to stay with our arms crossed before a decision of a kind, "said the First Edil.

Diego José Mateos has concluded by highlighting that "the Tajo Segura transfer is a cross-cutting issue, we all agree in Lorca and the Guadalentín Valley for its defense and the misuse of the Mar Menor cannot be the excuse for this decision."
