The Popular Party proposes the creation of a marked route for hiking and sports in nature (31/01/2020)

The objective is to provide people who visit it with better access, with similar characteristics to the Cejo de los Enamorados route

In this way Purias would have a tourist and cultural resource of interest, with great environmental appeal

The Councilor for Citizen Participation in the City of Lorca by the Popular Party, María de las Huertas García, presented this morning a new proposal of the PP through which it is proposed to create a hiking route that connects the hermitage of Felí , located in the district of Purias, with the castle of the mentioned place, a historical construction built in the 12th century in the foothills of the Sierra de Almenara, and which is classified as a Property of Cultural Interest by the Second Additional Provision of Law 16 / 1985, of June 25 of the Spanish Historical Heritage.

It is a proposal made with a totally constructive character and with the purpose of providing better conditioned and signposted access for Lorca and visitors who periodically approach to enjoy this castellar and the impressive views offered by the Guadalentín Valley from its privileged location.

Mari Huertas García has explained that practically every day it is visited by dozens of people, in a number that has been increasing over the last years, constituting a place of special interest especially for people and / or groups that practice hiking in the nature or for the so-called "runners".

We could also include a path of similar characteristics that also links with access through the old Eagles road, so that an even more extensive route is defined.

What we propose from the PP is that the access road that exists to this castle is conditioned, in a similar way to the popular route of the Lover's Eyebrow.

We are aware that for this we have to start a negotiation with the owners of the land through which the road that currently connects the castle with the hermitage passes, so in addition to putting this project on the table and available to the City Council, we We provide to work together and initiate the necessary dialogue in order to complete this process successfully, also collaborating in the search for financing.

We must remember that the Law establishes that BICs, like this castle, must be open to the visit of citizens, regardless of whether their property is private or public.

Mari Huertas García has indicated that through this project, the village of Purias would be provided with a better-equipped enclave so that people can enjoy nature and cultural heritage, generating synergies that would contribute to favoring the social movement and increasing visits.

We must bear in mind that both the practice of hiking and the "trail", in addition to the obvious claim for lovers of historical vestiges and nature itself, is experiencing a remarkable boom, with more and more people practicing it, and that, in parallel, they also enjoy the hotel services of each place to enjoy the gastronomy.

That is why we trust that this project will be welcomed by the current government team, since its constructive nature deserves to be receptive to an idea that pursues a benefit for all Lorca.

Mari Huertas García has explained that Felí Castle is located 12 kilometers south of the town center, in an unpuntal rocosode the southern foothills of Lasierra de Almenara, rising about 200 meters above the immediate terrain.

It was built as a fortification that would serve as a refuge for the peasant communities that lived in the surrounding farmhouses and that could facilitate the administrative and fiscal control that was exercised from Lorca between the last years of the 12th century, Almohad times, until the capitulation of the City in 1244.

This place was already populated in the Bronze Age, in fact there was a first establishment of the III millennium BC near the castle.

Possibly its inhabitants lived in houses of plant of circular tendency, and used a type of handmade pottery.

Subsequently, a large Roman villa was built related to an agricultural exploitation.

At the time, Cristianase joined the defensive network of the city, monitoring and warning the Lorca castle of possible dangers, since its location allowed it to control much of the Guadalentín valley, the passage to the Almanzora valley and communication with the coast .

The fortress plant is inscribed in a trapeze, with a maximum length of about 55 m in an east-west direction and a width of about 25 m north-south.

The castle is divided into two enclosures, the upper one being a large tower located in the southeast corner and the lower one a floor adapted to the relief.

It is parapetado behind a wall of tapial whose thickness oscillates between 1.20 m and 1.70.

It is still possible to distinguish a square floor plan, attached to the wall, which defended the northeast corner.

The access door was located at the southwest end, and was constructed by devising, based on breaks, a complicated triple elbow structure.

In the interior of this enclosure there are two reservoirs located in the northwest corner of the fortress.
