In the Municipal Plenary session of July 29, 2019, our municipal group presented an initiative at the Municipal Plenary urging the City Council to work on the search for solutions in the management and revaluation of livestock waste through biodigestion.
It has been six months since the resolutions of this motion were approved and although our proposal was accepted with certain objections by the other municipal groups, today we are proud to see how a company (Enersi Energy SA and its local partner Greenway) would be willing to Invested r20 million euros in a project of this nature.
Today, in a meeting of spokespersons, we have transmitted to the government team the need and our support to continue deepening and studying this type of initiatives (more when it is the private part that is willing to pay for the project) and that together with the efforts of associations such as ADESPOLOR, which are also working on the search for technical solutions in the management of livestock waste, in order to guarantee their use in accordance with the regulations, minimizing their impact and avoiding soil contamination by nitrates.
For our part we are maintaining contacts with other Spanish municipalities such as Chiclana (Cadiz), where these types of projects are already underway, and where biogas is used as fuel for public transport and municipal vehicles.
We believe that it is possible to create in the municipality a new business niche around the livestock activity, which generates new activities, investments and uses.
The municipality of Lorca has a powerful livestock establishment and we must take advantage of it and make it serve as a platform for other types of industries related to the primary sector, which diversify the business fabric and bring new opportunities.
