Aguas de Lorca removes a mattress that clogged the stormwater network (21/02/2020)

Operators who were conducting the inspection in a sewer manhole in the Alameda Cervantes area found a huge plug in the storm collector.

This time it was not a mass of wipes, since the unusual object that was obstructing the passage of water was a mattress that, due to its dimensions and the complexity it presented to remove it, had to be removed with a crane truck.

The mattress was located inside a chest where a rainwater channel reaches.

It is a rectangular concrete duct with measures of 1.5 m.

wide by 1.5 m.

high and a few months ago it had been cleaned and rehabilitated.

If it must have been complicated to introduce it into the canal, the operators of Aguas de Lorca had nothing easy to remove it from there, since the mattress could not be manipulated or folded, so it was necessary to hook it by one of the tips and use a boom truck to extract it.

Making use of the sewerage network as a landfill has dire consequences for the environment and in this case the huge plug could have caused damage to adjacent homes, since the rainwater would have overflowed and flooded the entire area, affecting the Alameda de Cervantes in homes known as Casas del Banco.

Although it is not something that usually happens, the Water Manager of Lorca, Antonio Franco, reminds citizens that there are green dots where to deposit this type of waste and a municipal collection service.
