The Poncemar Foundation begins the construction of its new Training Center on the University Campus of Lorca (26/02/2020)

The new property will be built on a plot of 5,000 m2, suitable for assistance to the elderly and will have a constructed area of ​​832 m2 distributed over two floors and a budget of 1.2 million euros;

It is planned to be operational in early 2021.

The mayor of Lorca and President of the Poncemar Foundation, Diego José Mateos, has presided, this noon, the first stone act of the Center for Training, Research and Assistance in socio-sanitary matters promoted by the Poncemar Foundation on the University Campus of Lorca, and in which he has been accompanied by the President of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, the Rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján, the manager of the Board of Trustees of the Poncemar Foundation, Luis Martínez, and the Employment Advisor , Research and Universities, Miguel Motas.

The mayor of Lorca recalled that "the construction of this future new training center is the result of an agreement signed in April 2016 between the University of Murcia, the Consortium of the University Campus of Lorca, the City of Lorca and the Poncemar Foundation".

Diego José Mateos has pointed out that "this new building will be used for the Elderly Day Center and also for training and research in the social and health field of the elderly. The Board will be responsible for the use of the property during the next fifty years, committing to use it for care and training in the elderly. "

The property will be built by the Poncemar Foundation on a plot of 5,000 m2, suitable for assistance to the elderly and that allows the educational growth of the University in Lorca.

The Center will have a constructed area of ​​832 m2 distributed over two floors.

The ground floor will be used by the Foundation to provide assistance and care to the elderly through a preventive, welfare-rehabilitative and socializing Day Center service for people affected by different degrees of dependence, developing an intensive program of care for the elderly

The upper floor will be used for training and to be a test center for research on older people in the university field.

The intervention by the Foundation on the plot aims to promote relationships between seniors, students, professors, researchers.

The execution budget of this center under the Poncemar Foundation is 1,267,000 million euros and is expected to be operational in the first months of 2021.

The purpose is the well-being of the elderly and the specialization of the University of Lorca in socio-health matters of the elderly.

Being a peripheral Campus this singularization is a fundamental differentiating element to put in value the Campus of Lorca, with the addition that supposes the integration in the project of the Integrated Center for Vocational Training and of Area III of the Murcia Health Service.

From Poncemar it is intended that students who wish to orient their professional future around the elderly at present in Lorca are taught university degrees in nursing and human and dietary nutrition on this Campus have a formative reference, and that this relevance allows The growth of the Campus with the implementation of new degrees related to the social and health field of the elderly such as the Occupational Therapy of recent establishment.

It is also the objective of the Center to promote the continuous training of socio-health professionals and put into operation a program of practices of these teachings as extensive as possible that links all the entities of the sector in Lorca.

This new Training Center also aims to promote research in older people from all areas, health, nutritional, occupational and leisure.

Preparation of studies and reports on the group of elderly people, their care and promotion and collaboration in research projects with the University Research Centers and Nursing Homes of the city.

The Poncemar Chair of Gerontology of the University of Murcia in operation since January 2017 and with its headquarters the Casa del Capitán, very close to the Center to be built, will serve to enhance all these actions, integrating into the project.
