The mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, said that “the Railway Infrastructure Manager keeps the planned step on the Olmillos road in an environmental study in case it could be replaced by a wildlife pass”

The mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, took stock this morning, together with the president of the Villaespesa Neighbors Platform, Patricio Gómez, of the technical meeting held this Wednesday between members of this group and municipal technicians with representatives of the Infrastructure Administrator Railways (Adif) and in which, according to the mayor, "were put on the table the approaches and modifications that were planned in the layout."

The mayor of Lorca stressed that “it was a positive meeting since alternatives were proposed to the initial layout that contemplated five overpasses, of which three will be modified in response to the logical and common sense requests of the neighbors of Tercia, Marchena and La Hoya, which requested that they be underground steps, is about the Villaespesa Road, the Nueva D3 Road and the Middle Road, which are the ones that carry the most traffic ”.

Diego José Mateos has pointed out that “another one of those five steps, the one envisaged on the Olmillos road is in an environmental study in case it could be modified by a wildlife pass, as Adif technicians explained yesterday”.

Mateos Molina stressed that “in this meeting it was also made clear the intention of ADIF to do these works in a manner compatible with the economic activity of the companies in this area so that there is no cut in the roads of the village and allowed one step from the trucks. ”

The First Edil has advanced that “these works will continue to be monitored and will be reunited periodically, while Adif carries out the appropriate procedures for the modification of said project, and once the study of the path of Los Olmillos will convene the Railroad Bureau to account for the final project. ”

The mayor has thanked “the predisposition of Adif for the search for solutions and alternatives that, although they do not satisfy all requests not only from the neighbors, but also from the City of Lorca, if it does so in large part, especially in the most important "

Mateos explained that "what will be done will be to elevate the platform of the road, depending on the kilometer points, with the aim of fitting those steps" and recalled that "the project is 8 kilometers long and is contemplated therein. the construction of a viaduct, as well as five steps to cross roads and paths.

It also includes a pedestrian walkway, the extension of the La Hoya station, as well as the construction of a new one in Lorca ”.

Mateos Molina has detailed that “the contract, which has already been awarded, has an execution period of 33 months, which could be reduced considerably with these modifications, and includes all construction and engineering work planned in the new connection project of the high speed between Murcia and Almeria, both for passenger and freight traffic ”.

On the other hand, from the Villaespesa Neighbors Platform, its president, Patricio Gómez, has been quite satisfied with the result of said meeting and recalled that “our claim was focused on having those five overpasses built in an underground way and they have attended that the three most important ones if they substitute by inferior steps ”.

Gómez has detailed that this area of Lorca, the district of Tercia, has a very important fruit and vegetable industry, especially artichoke and broccoli, which develop a fundamental task in the field of corporatism and many of which have 1,000 workers plus indirect jobs, so “we ask that these modifications be taken into account so that the natural doors of our companies, the roads through which hundreds of roads run every day, are not harmed.

So we are very satisfied with Adif's intention that the works can be made compatible "with the normal functioning of our companies".

Finally, the First Edil has highlighted “the commitment of the City of Lorca with the solution to a problem that comes from afar and that needed the participation of all parties, also showing the work of the central government to meet the demands of these neighbors. "
