IU requests the cessation of Antonio Navarro after not having given the explanations required by the felling of a centennial oak (05/03/2020)

Sosa also categorically opposes that part of the Caravaca Highway jacaranda be replaced and not integrated into the remodeling works in the area

But Sosa, Councilor spokesman for Izquierda Unida Verdes in the town hall of Lorca, has urged the mayor, Diego José Mateos, to proceed immediately to the dismissal of the mayor of Agriculture, Mr. Antonio Navarro, for his "ruin silence" having demanded explanations for the felling of a century-old oak on the Quijero Road.

On Thursday of last week, Sosa appeared before the media demanding explanations from Navarro to know why, having knowledge of the brief presented by the Platform for Landscape Quality in Lorca for the inclusion of the botanical specimen in question in the Monumental Tree Catalog of the municipality, which would have guaranteed its conservation, there was no transfer of it to the relevant technicians for its study.

"Mysteriously", one month after the presentation of the same, the owners of the land where it was proceeded to clear it with unusual speed.

"We demand explanations and we have only obtained a cowardly silence on his part," said Sosa, so they no longer require him to resign, but to be dismissed by the Mayor for such mean behavior by the mayor of his team Government, because our city is not in a position to lose more trees, let alone if they are unique specimens.

In reference to the jacarandas and the Carretera de Caravaca, IU is opposed to the plans that are planned in the remodeling works in the area, for the replacement of twelve of them in the first section of the road with smaller specimens.

Sosa has already managed to paralyze the felling that was taking place of these jacarandas at the beginning of the works, six of which were transplanted according to the government team, but for how they were extracted, Sosa doubts the viability of this measure and will move tomorrow together with a technician to see what state they are in.

According to Sosa, they have had enough space to make the necessary connections on the road without compromising the viability of the trees, so do not leave now with possible problems for the safety of pedestrians and vehicles due to the detachment of branches when the roots are affected by the plays.

"The trees are not Christmas pots that are thrown in the trash when one pleases," and for the pleasure or gain of someone, it may not be that these jacaranda are removed, but that it is necessary to attend the Lorca society as a whole that demands greater protection of existing woodland.
