IU of Lorca wants to amend the regional budgets that are processed in the Murcian parliament (06/03/2020)

The sanitary deficiencies of Lorca, the need to promote economic alternatives in "Lorca emptied" of the high districts and the preservation of the natural jewel of the Lorca coast, center the UI amendments that will be defended in the Regional Assembly by the PODEMOS Group.

The municipal spokesman of IU-V in the City of Lorca, Pedro Sosa, explained this morning the battery of positive proposals for Lorca that his political group has prepared in the form of amendments to the General Budgets of the CARM, and that will be processed in the Regional Parliament through the PODEMOS deputies present in the Chamber, with whom the left-wing organization is being regionally coordinated to replace its absence in it.

Sosa has stated that there are five amendments to the regional budget proposed by IU de Lorca, three of them related to the field of health, a fourth with the depopulation phenomenon that affects Lorca's districts, and the last one with the need to provide legal guarantees the protection of one of the most valuable natural areas of Lorca: its coastal area.

The star amendment in health matters has to do with what would be the first budget appropriation aimed at the construction of a new hospital in Lorca, which, as we know, IU has proposed to place in the public area of Carraclaca.

Sosa recalled that in 1990 - soon 30 years will be completed - they were inaugurated and the facilities of the "Rafael Méndez" Hospital in Lorca were put into service before the collapse of the old Hospital Santa Rosa de Lima, which was the health reference institution in our municipality since 1974. In 1990, says Sosa, Lorca had a population that barely exceeded 67,000 inhabitants.

At present, the Lorca population exceeds the number of 93,000 registered people, and there are very similar population growth dynamics throughout these almost three decades in all the municipalities that are grouped in Health Area III: Águilas, Totana, Puerto Lumbreras and Aledo.

The mayor of IU has also pointed out that since its very inauguration the Rafael Méndez Hospital has been criticized by its users for its strange architectural configuration;

due to its inclined arrangement on the ground on which it sits (which obliges users to overcome by walking an entire slope to access a good part of its facilities);

due to the lack of perspectives on the necessary future extensions that those who decided to place it on the slopes of a mountain range that clog their growth in the north had;

due to the energy inefficiency of its facilities;

or due to the insufficient parking spaces of vehicles that users of the hospital suffer daily.

We believe, they affirm from IU, that after three decades of service this sanitary infrastructure will not last another decade without further resisting the quality of the health services and services of a user population that has increased significantly since the Hospital was launched.

We know that the decision regarding the planning of new health infrastructures of the relevance and economic cost of a new hospital is a complex issue.

From the beginning of its vindication by its users, and by the political institutions closest to them, until it becomes a reality, years and even decades pass, so it is necessary that before the signs of collapse and depletion of the sanitary infrastructures of the Rafael Méndez Hospital, begins to put on the political agenda a demand that will take a long time to come true, but that, as in all important things, has to take its first steps at the right time.

And so, says Sosa, this amendment to the budgets of CARM.

The second of the amendments abounds in what IU-V de Lorca called "accumulated historical health debt" of Area III of Health.

The councilor of IU-V, using data published by associations for the defense of public health, both in Spain and the Region of Murcia, states that "the health system of the Region is the second with worst services in Spain, and , within the Murcia health system, health area III (that of Lorca) presents the worst service quality indexes in all 9 Murcia areas ".

So, Sosa explained that the amendment would try to correct the accumulated "historic health debt" of area III, to normalize and standardize the quality of public service provision in Lorca and its area with the rest of the Region.

The third sanitary amendment refers to the construction of the San Cristóbal Health Center on the grounds of the Action Unit in the area known as Los Carros de Lorca Bridge.

Outside the health field, IU has also proposed amendments related to the required development of the Natural Resources Management Plan of the Cabo Cope-Calnegre Regional Park, which is no less than 28 years late, with a regional government that is failing to comply that time the mandates of the Law 4/92 of Protection and Planning of the Territory of the Region of Murcia.

And the last of the amendments presented has to do with what Sosa has called "the empty Lorca."

That is, the fight against depopulation.

With this amendment IU of Lorca intends that there be a budget allocation for the promotion of sustainable economic alternatives in the districts of Lorca that suffer depopulation, among which has cited the "Desert Truffle" Plan and the impulse of the "red thyme" in the high districts of Lorca.
