IU-Verdes Lorca calls for better access control and more personal protective equipment to prevent contagion by coronavirus in Rafael Méndez (23/03/2020)

The councilor of this training, Gloria Martín, has positively valued the measures aimed at workers in direct contact with positive patients, but has demanded improvements in personal protective equipment for the rest of the staff, as well as preventing contagion from visits by family members.

The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes in Lorca, Gloria Martín, today demanded that the Management of Area III of Health "more and better means" to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the regional hospital Rafael Méndez.

The mayor of this training has positively valued the establishment of an internal circuit for workers in direct contact with positive patients and that they have their own clothing, ffp2 respiratory masks, glasses / screen, waterproof gowns and gloves.

However, with a constructive spirit but also a lot of concern, Martín has lamented the "rationing" of surgical masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE) for the rest of the staff who "are also exposed to contagion" by patients by undiagnosed coronavirus.

Martín explained that his training has received calls from health professionals who warn of the risks they are running both in the hospital and in the specialty center of Santa Rosa de Lima, where the staff is working with reusable cloth masks.

The mayor of IU-Verdes has also expressed her disappointment that some local supermarkets have established more security measures in their accesses than those of these health centers.

For this reason, he has asked that a specific protocol be established for the relatives of the patients who remain hospitalized.

"These people must have masks, gloves and sanitizing liquid at their disposal in the entrance hall to prevent them, if they have contracted the disease, from transmitting it to users and hospital staff," said the mayor.

For all these reasons, Martín has asked for "more means" to prevent the infection from spreading among staff, which would greatly affect the development of work in the health center and compromise the health of professionals who are "on the front line" in the battle against this disease.

In this sense, the councilor of IU-Verdes has shown the support of her training to the Mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, who has also asked the autonomous government for more means of protection for health personnel, local police, emergencies and cleaning services .

In this regard, Martín recalled that the councilors of IU-Verdes will maintain an attitude of "total collaboration" with the municipal government team for the duration of the health crisis and has appealed to the "good sense" of the residents of Lorca to comply with the provisions of the Royal Decree that declared the state of alarm.

Martín has highlighted the responsible attitude of "the vast majority of citizens" who are making "a great effort" to protect themselves and others against the virus.
