The councilor for Social Services of the Lorca City Council, María Dolores Chumillas, has announced the granting of 354,918 euros, by the Government of Spain, to help cover social needs caused by the coronavirus health crisis.

María Dolores Chumillas explained that "the Government of Spain has distributed more than 9,000,000 euros among the municipalities of the Region of Murcia to cover the social needs caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Of these extraordinary funds, the City of Lorca will receive a total of 354,918.00 euros to reinforce the work of the Social Services of Primary Care of the municipality, as managers of the needs caused by this health emergency. "

The mayor has indicated that "this budgetary item comes from an extraordinary credit of 300,000,000 euros approved by the Council of Ministers of the Government of Spain and, as indicated in the Royal Decree Law and in the credit distribution agreement, these they have been generated with the aim of guaranteeing and reinforcing Basic Social Services Benefits to carry out urgent and extraordinary measures that are exclusively intended to face extraordinary situations derived from the coronavirus. "

Chumillas Martínez has detailed that "this economic amount will be used to accelerate the granting of urgently needed aid; to expand coverage of basic needs for care, support, security and food for a number of elderly, disabled or dependent people already guarantee the adequate follow-up of all open cases of families with minors with indications of risk of lack of protection ".

"Also to incorporate vulnerable, disabled or dependent elderly people who demand support; to support single-parent families to reconcile when parents can work; to expand the items of aid for payment of electricity and mortgage debts or rental of houses, as well as the social water bonus so that it can serve 50 percent more families or cover the economic needs to be able to access the internet and mobile telephony of families at risk of exclusion, among others. "

The Councilor for Social Services has revealed that "in short, it is an ambitious project to distribute the protective action of the social services system of primary care in Lorca, attending to individual technical, economic or material benefits that families or people affected by the health and social crisis generated.
