The Civil Guard rescues a trucker trapped for hours between loading the trailer (12/04/2020)

The gas station employee alerted the Civil Guard of strange noises inside a truck, believing that it was a robbery

The driver, who was breathing heavily, was trapped upside down between two three-ton sacks of potatoes and a side wall of the semi-trailer

The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia, within the framework of the operational devices established for mobility control to comply with the current state of alarm, decreed by the Government, has rescued and assisted the driver of a truck, in the parking lot of a service station on the A-7 motorway, Lorca municipality, which was trapped in the semi-trailer between two three-ton sacks of potatoes.

The action began at dawn on Thursday, the 9th, when Civil Guard officers were alerted by the employee of a service station located on the A-7 motorway towards Barcelona and the municipality of Lorca, about a possible robbery in the interior of a truck parked in the area.

Apparently, this employee had heard noises and knocks coming from the articulated vehicle, reason why he suspected that it could be a robbery.

Immediately, a Citizen Security patrol went to the scene to verify the facts and, once next to the truck, heard blows and groans coming from inside, so the civil guards opened the access door to the semi-trailer.

Inside they found a person, of whom they only saw the lower part of the legs, when they were face down, caught between two bags of potatoes of about three tons each and the side wall of the semi-trailer, with hardly any breath.

They cut the potato sacks to evacuate the load and release it

At that time, after requesting the presence of emergency medical services and firefighters, and given the impossibility of moving the bags due to their enormous weight, both civil guards decided to cut them and manually remove the potatoes with the necessary precautions so as not to be equally buried by the products.

This costly maneuver was successful in releasing part of the load that was on the individual, thanks to which he began to breathe normally.

The agents found out that it was the articulated truck driver, as well as that he had been trapped for more than an hour while asking for help, barely hitting the side of the trailer, although the low traffic of vehicles in the area prevented other people from Hearing his distress call, except for the employee of the nearby service station who did not hesitate to contact the Civil Guard.

Subsequently, in collaboration with firefighters and health services teams that came to the place, they managed to completely free him and extract him to be transferred by ambulance to the Rafael Méndez hospital in Lorca where he was admitted.

The driver, a 50-year-old man, was seriously injured in the neck, shoulder and arm, although the effective action of the civil guards prevented his possible death.
