The Council of Ministers has approved a Royal Decree-law in which, among other measures, the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia (CARM) is empowered to establish the conditions under which the citizens of Lorca may request the extension of the term for the reconstruction and rehabilitation or for the repair of the affected housesThe reconstruction and repair of the houses in Lorca is co-financed by CARM and the General State AdministrationThe final execution period may not be later than October 31, 2023.The Government, at the proposal of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma), has empowered the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia (CARM) to extend the term of execution of the reconstruction of the houses in Lorca, affected by the earthquakes of the year 2011.Through a Royal Decree-law, approved today by the Council of Ministers, which, among other measures, empowers CARM to establish the conditions under which the citizens of Lorca may request the extension of the execution period for reconstruction, rehabilitation or repair of affected homes. Royal Decree-Law 6/2011, of May 13, by which urgent measures are taken to repair the damage caused by the seismic movements that occurred on May 11, 2011 in Lorca, provided that the deadline for executing the reconstruction works and rehabilitation or repair of damages to which the aid co-financed by Mitma and by the CARM are destined, could not exceed 24 and 12 months respectively, without prejudice to the mixed Commission, provided for in article 7 of the aforementioned royal decree-law , could expressly authorize, and for exceptional reasons, an extension of the indicated period.There are beneficiaries who, for various reasons, have not been able to carry out the works within the established period.

For this reason, and with the aim of avoiding the complex economic situation that we will have to face after the health crisis that we are going through, serious difficulties of an economic-social nature will be added in the town of Lorca if many citizens are forced to return the amounts received or part of them, plus the corresponding default interest, the Government of Spain has empowered CARM, as the competent administration to establish the regulatory regime for these subsidies, to determine the assumptions and effects of the extension of said periods .Likewise, the possibility that the Mixed Commission may extend the referred execution periods is eliminated, since the successive extensions must be approved in accordance with the provisions of the regional regulations.Likewise, it is established that the term of execution of the corresponding works may not be later than October 31, 2023.
