The City Council of Lorca reports the suspension of the traditional cults that are held in May in honor of the patron saint of the city (23/04/2020)

Among these religious acts, which this year were in the phase of being declared of cultural interest, stand out Saturdays of dedication and devotion to the Patron Saint by the city's collectives, such as the elderly, athletes, youth, Lorca women, vulnerable people and religious brotherhoods . The Councilor for Culture of the City of Lorca, María Ángeles Mazuecos has reported the suspension of the traditional cults that are held during the month of May in honor of the patron saint of the city, Santa María la Real de las Huertas, due to the crisis health that we are suffering as a result of the coronavirus. A decision, which as explained, the mayor of Culture has been agreed by the Royal Brotherhood of the Virgen de las Huertas, with his counselor Miguel Ángel Alarcón and the Mozos del Convento. María Ángeles Mazuecos recalled that "these acts take place in the Patronal Sanctuary and end with the solemn procession of the Patron Saint of Lorca and the children of First Communion.

From the Brotherhood of the Virgen de las Huertas they have detailed that "among these historical and traditional religious cults that this year were in the process of being declared of cultural interest, Saturdays of dedication and devotion to the Patron Saint by the city's collectives stand out, As the elderly, athletes, youth, Lorca women, vulnerable people and religious brotherhoods gather at the Holy Mass and Novena in honor of the Virgin. Finally, the Councilor for Culture has stated that "within the penalty of not being able to be held, right now the efforts of both the City Council and the Brotherhood is that this whole situation passes as soon as possible, as well as a speedy recovery of the sick and the recognition of all those who in some way are working tirelessly for and by the rest.
