The PP proposes the adaptation of the river bed Guadalentín so that children and their companions can walk during the unconfinement (25/04/2020)

The popular ones also propose that some streets in the center be closed to road traffic every Sunday, such as Avenida Juan Carlos I and Lope Gisbert, so that children can enjoy their outings in a safer way. The PP calls for the comprehensive reopening of the Alamedas and the Huerto de la Rueda, as well as the empowerment of areas with similar conditions also in townships where the residents request it, always respecting sanitary measures. The Councilor for Citizen Participation in the City Council of Lorca for the Popular Party, Mari Huertas García, has requested the Municipal Council to proceed by the municipal technical services to the comprehensive adaptation of the Guadalentín river bed for children and their companions They can walk through this enclave, enabling a place that meets the ideal conditions, given that it is central, accessible and fully open.

Specifically, it is the section corresponding to the space between the vicinity of La Peñica and the bridge where Juan Carlos I and Avenida de Santa Clara meet. From the Popular Party we make this proposal with a totally constructive nature so that it is carried out by the City Council, with the sole objective of making available to Lorca an area for recreation and walking alternative to the streets and squares.

The children and their families would thus have an open space, with green areas, free of asphalt and concrete. This measure constitutes a feasible solution, quick to implement and interesting for minors, since they will continue to be unable to use the parks and playgrounds, where the use ban remains in force.

That is why the adaptation by the City Council of the river bed would contribute effectively to reduce the anxiety and frustration of children, since an alternative is opened for them to develop their activity outdoors and to ease the particular tensions produced between the child population due to the forced confinement caused by the coronavirus. The popular ones also propose that some streets in the center be closed to road traffic every Sunday, such as Avenida Juan Carlos I and Lope Gisbert, so that children can enjoy their outings in a safer way, with more space for their activities and getting rid of of the limitations that the passage of vehicles always imposes. Mari Huertas García has also proposed that the City Council undertake the complete reopening of the large and popular gardens of our urban area, as is the case of Las Alamedas, with the exception of the Pediatra Diego Pallarés park, which must still be closed due to restrictions of security.

This area, like the riverbed, offers children and companions ideal conditions for walking, although the established restrictions must be respected.

We must bear in mind that if we expand the offer of spaces available for children's walks, we will avoid the formation of concentrations of people, something that we cannot give rise to. The popular councilor has pointed out that if people can walk through streets much narrower than the enclaves that we propose, it is common sense that they allow themselves to walk along the river bed and other landscaped green spaces, in addition to constituting a positive stimulus factor in the collective imagination, since it will be the first step so that we Lorca can go "reconquering" some streets, squares and green spaces that still remain empty.
