Now they will try that "nobody stays in the way"The councilors of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Pedro Sosa and Gloria Martín, have expressed their satisfaction with the announcement made by the Minister of Public Works, José Ramón Díez de Revenga, about the closure of the process of justification of the aid for the repair of damaged homes by the Lorca earthquakes, which affects more than 5,300 families.Sosa and Martín have assured that this is a "choral" victory in which all administrations have participated, although they have recalled that it would never have been possible without the "lesson of courage" given by the 600 families that are part of the affected platform, which have shown "an admirable fighting capacity and resistance." "600 have fought for 5,300 and the effort has been worth it," they said.In June 2017, the autonomous community began a massive procedure of justification and reimbursement of aid granted six years earlier for the repair of homes damaged by the 2011 earthquakes.Then a bureaucratic ordeal began that led the IU to organize those affected on a platform, to present different initiatives to the Plenary of the City Council and to demand a fair solution before the central and autonomous administrations, which granted the aid.The arguments put forward, by IU and by the platform, were the prescription of the right of the administrations to demand the reimbursement of these aid and the deficits of a regulation that did not take into account the real cost of the works that the neighbors had to assume and that it was based on the expertise of the technicians, who did not consider the damages that appeared after the evaluations.All this apart from the fact that the administration never indicated what elements of their homes should be repaired.

"Only one letter was sent to them communicating the amount of the aid and the deadline for carrying out the works," Martín explained.Waiting to know the details of the Decree Law approved by the autonomous government, Sosa and Martín have asked that "no one be left on the road" because there are neighbors who have already been required to reimburse the subsidies by road urgently or even have their payroll and bank accounts seized.In this sense, they have asked that the solution be "equitable" for all.

"If the philosophy that inspires this measure is to relieve these families of the weight that they will have to bear due to the crisis unleashed by the coronavirus, we believe that it is only fair that the embargoes be paralyzed because, otherwise, the situation that will be generated in these families it will be ruin, "they warned.

"Now it is time to allow those affected to focus on recovering from that other great misfortune that is before us and to close, at last, the terrible page of earthquakes and their consequences, which has been very doubtful," they concluded.
