IU Lorca denounces important breaches of plenary agreements for the protection of the Lorca woodland (12/05/2020)

Gloria Martín recalled that, at the request of her training, seven months ago the Plenary approved that the City Council promote the listing of a Property of Cultural Interest, with the subcategory of historical garden, for the tree-lined promenade of Las Alamedas.

There has also been no progress in implementing a protection regime for unique urban gardens, such as those of the former Majorca XIII Regiment or those of the IES Ibáñez Martín The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Gloria Martín, has asked the councilor for Parks and Gardens of the City of Lorca, Antonio Navarro, to explain what efforts he has taken to promote the listing of a Property of Cultural Interest, with the subcategory of historical garden, for the tree-lined promenade of Las Alamedas. Martín recalled that this is an agreement unanimously adopted by the municipal Corporation, at the proposal of the IU-Verdes, in a plenary session held seven months ago, without, until now, having been informed of the steps taken to comply with it, "We are very afraid that they are none," said the mayor. As a result of the initiative proposed by IU-Verdes, other unanimous agreements were also adopted that have not yet materialized at the moment.

In this sense, Martín pointed out the non-compliance in the drafting of a Participatory Comprehensive Reforestation Plan for the years 2020-23, based on the Lorca Urban Landscape Quality Plan (PCPUL), and which should include planting in the municipality of tall trees (not shrubs) in sufficient quantity to match and improve WHO recommendations.

Said plan, was going to affect especially in the plantation of trees and in the implementation of natural shadows in public schools, as well as in the entrances to the county councils and the urban area. Nothing is known either of the creation of the network of themed parks that were going to be located in the Virgen de las Huertas neighborhood, in the Huerto de la Rueda and in the La Hoya deputation, nor of the creation of two peri-urban forest forests.

"The campaign to raise awareness and awareness of the importance of trees in urban settings to which the municipal government team was committed has not even been launched," lamented Martín. On the other hand, Gloria Martín recalled that the Plenary, also unanimously and at the request of the United-Green Left, approved six months ago to carry out "urgent" measures for the adequate protection and conservation of the monumental trees of Lorca, as well as the edition of a didactic guide on the cataloged specimens, next to which a small explanatory poster would be placed outlining its name, perimeter, age, and other characteristics.

The motion of IU-Verdes also established a protection regime for the Urban Gardens of Lorca in attention to its history, wealth, botanical variety or uniqueness of its specimens, including those of the old Regiment Mallorca XIII or those of the IES Ibáñez Martín. Martín assured that the fact that the municipal government team works with extended budgets should not be an impediment to advance in most of these commitments, some of which would have a "minimal" cost for the municipal coffers.

And, in any case, he announced that in the same way that changes have been made to the current budget to address other issues, "we would be delighted to support a modification aimed at making Lorca a more humane and livable city, in addition to contributing positive to the environment.
