The Department of Tourism of Lorca launches the "Lorca On Streaming" project (29/05/2020)

An innovative project to visit the different monuments of Lorca from home and live, adapting the guided tours to the situation generated by COVID19 and which will continue to spread the municipality to any place in the world with the hashtag #LorcaOnStreaming The Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Tourism, Francisco Morales, along with the Councilor for Culture, María Ángeles Mazuecos, has unveiled the latest project launched by the Department of Tourism, which consists of conducting live broadcast visits, which will take place simultaneously with the face-to-face as soon as the latter are possible. The mayor of Tourism has indicated that "we want to bring the heritage of Lorca to people who are at home or anywhere in the world through a streaming visit to the various monuments and heritage elements of Lorca with an official guide." The idea arises as a consequence of the face-to-face closure of the places that can be visited in Lorca, but it aims to be maintained throughout the year, making them compatible with regular visits when they can be carried out again. María Ángeles Mazuecos, stressed that "the dissemination of the historical heritage of Lorca is very important, which has been a great unknown even to Lorca himself, and this is an exceptional way for an ancient city to enter the 21st century hand in hand of new technologies.

" Through a digital platform for live visits, the guides, after a brief presentation, will guide participants as virtual visitors to the monument, emphasizing the most relevant points of the monument while recounting their curiosities and revealing its secrets.

The visits will last between 30 and 45 minutes depending on the monument in question.

In this first launch phase, visits will be free. In this way, the offer of Tourism in Lorca is significantly expanded and shows great capacity to adapt and transform inconveniences into opportunities by digitizing products.

Examples of this process are both the elimination of informative leaflets on paper that are now downloadable from the Lorca tourism website and QR codes, or the actions on social networks and the web that the council has been developing in recent months, such as campaigns "The procession goes inside", "Share a heritage full of stories" and now "Lorca On Streaming" is added. A pilot test was carried out last Wednesday, May 27, and it could be enjoyed by more than fifty students from the neighboring municipality of Totana.

The dynamics of the visits is that the students and their teacher will connect through a digital platform with the guide.

In the case of the Castle, he made a tour of the towers, reservoirs and walls while posing a question and answer game so that the visit meets its educational objectives and becomes more enjoyable. During the visit, this questionnaire was carried out as a contest whose winners received the Friend Card to enjoy throughout the year and the rest of the students received a 2x1 offer for face-to-face visits when they can be made. Given the great success of this first pilot experience, we have gone ahead by scheduling more visits for schoolchildren during the months of May and June to virtually visit the Castle of Lorca.

The next one is scheduled for June 5, and from Turismo de Lorca they already have numerous groups interested in making these virtual visits.

There will also be visits for individuals from June 26, of which there are already some confirmed. In addition, this product will be added to the program of activities offered to schools and has the advantage that any educational center in Spain or even outside the country can make a virtual visit to our city with the help of a tourist guide at they can ask you live.

They may be offered in other languages, especially in English. Turismo de Lorca plans to expand the streaming visits for the general public, which will be paid, in which you can take tours of other of the most important monuments of Lorca: the Synagogue, the old Collegiate Church of San Patricio, the Califal Palace located in the sanctuary of the Virgen de las Huertas, among others, together with themed characters to liven up these guided tours.
