Lorca promotes rural tourism and its virgin coast as a safe destination (19/06/2020)

Francisco Morales has presented the new brochure "Rural tourism and beaches of Lorca".

The enormous extension of our municipality offers a great amount of resources and landscapes, as well as the perfect conditions to be a safe destination.

Also, it has announced a new free tourist product: a monumental gymkanaFrancisco Morales, Deputy Mayor of Lorca and Councilor for Tourism, presented this morning a new tourist incentive within the Plan of Reactivation, Dynamization and Promotion of Local Commerce, Hospitality, Tourism, Culture and Leisure, as is the commitment to the rural and nature tourism.

A new tourist brochure, called "Rural tourism and beaches of Lorca" reveals the enormous potential of our rural and natural environment, whether inland or on the coast, where you can carry out activities safely. The Councilor for Tourism stressed that "Lorca is the second largest municipality in Spain and has a great diversity of landscapes.

Its 1675 km2 encompass 38 districts next to the city, with its own traditions and idiosyncrasies that, together with its variety and landscape contrasts, offer an unbeatable rural wealth.

"We can distinguish three great varieties of landscapes.

Protected natural spaces are located in the northern districts.

In the Guadalentín valley area, the traditional landscape of the Lorquina garden stands out, structured by channels and ditches of Roman and Arab origin to irrigate Mediterranean crops of vegetables and fruits and vegetables.

And the lush coast of Lorca, nestled in the Cabo Cope and Puntas de Calnegre Regional Park, where we find a strip of 11 kilometers of virgin coastline with small coves and natural beaches."We put all this at the service of the visitor and tourist, demonstrating that Lorca, in addition to a magnificent old town declared a Historic Artistic Complex, has an extensive, diverse and wonderful territory to make known and enjoyed," Morales said.Among the wide range of possibilities that Lorca makes available to tourists we find signposted and conditioned hiking trails to enjoy the landscape variety of the municipality and discover its most relevant rural side, such as the Via Augusta route, Cerro de la Selva , or the Counselor and Puntarrón.

The Espartaria route stands out, whose 48 kilometers, which can be traveled on foot or by bike, are divided into three stages where you can observe protected species such as the griffon vulture, or the contemplation of fields of cultivation of cereals, almonds, olive trees or the characteristic mountains of esparto of the area, among other routes that can be consulted on the Lorca Tourism website; or archeology in sight, with a large number of heritage resources such as defensive towers, military columns, and above all archaeological remains from the Argaric, Roman and Arab period, among which the El Rincón-Almendricos archaeological park, Los Cipreses in La Torrecilla, the Rye Mosque-La Tova, defensive towers, miliary columns, or the spectacular Xiquena castle. The presence of important hydraulic resources is also noteworthy, such as dams built to contain the waters, such as Bridges and Valdeinfierno, which continue to maintain their original function and give rise to wetlands where you can enjoy fauna and flora; or the Luchena, Vélez or Corneros rivers that run through the northern districts and offer a pleasant walk for hikers; and even the artificial beach of Coy, an ideal bathing area for summer. To finish off the rural Lorca experience, in our municipality we have a wide range of rural accommodation, as well as three municipal hostels: Casa Grande in Coy, Casa Iglesias in Culebrina and Calnegre in Puntas de Calnegre; in addition to two guesthouses and twenty rural houses.

These accommodations comply with the established standards regarding hygienic-sanitary systems and allow the safety distance recommended by the sanitary authorities to be kept, being, in most cases, individual houses that will be occupied by family groups."All this we have collected in the new brochure" Rural tourism and beaches of Lorca "that we present today, and which is the impetus of this City Council to promote the tourist development of our districts.

Although this tourist offer was already being developed in the new strategy of the Department of Tourism, the current situation has made it a perfect opportunity to promote it and make visitors and tourists bet on a safe value such as rural Lorca and the natural coast of Lorca, "said Francisco Morales.Self-guided tourist itineraryThe Councilor for Tourism, based on the Plan for Reactivation, Dynamization and Promotion of Local Commerce, Hospitality, Tourism, Culture and Leisure, has also announced a new tourist product within the digitization process that its council is carrying out , and that it is also an activity compatible with anti-COVID measures since it avoids, on the one hand, contacts or the use of loan devices, secondly, the groups as they are self-guided, and thirdly the crowds since the itineraries are accessible 24 hours 365 days a year."This is a new tourist" gymkana "with which to tour the monumental Lorca.

The user has to scan a QR code and follow the clues that will lead him to tour corners with history and pay attention to curious details that tend to go unnoticed.

In each In this scenario, they will have to look for the answer to a riddle that will take them to the next enigma while enjoying and learning about the heritage and history of Lorca, "Morales said. The mayor has concluded that "this product is fun and simple, it is used from the mobile phone, online and is completely free.

With this gymkana you do not need to download any App or create any account or register on a platform.

Like does not use GPS, the adventure is not interrupted inside buildings or museums.
