The City Council of Lorca will continue with the work of making the LGTBIQ social movement visible and the fight against 'StopLGTBIphobia' (29/06/2020)

The agreement of the Municipal Socialist, Citizen and United Left-Green Groups also includes "continuing to improve the School coexistence Plan for equal treatment for LGTBI people, in addition to training programs so that public workers can count on tools to prevent and detect cases of crimes based on sexual orientation.

" The Mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, has informed of the approval, this morning, by the Plenary of the Lorca City Council, of a joint motion of the socialist municipal groups, Ciudadanos and Izquierda Unida Verdes on the occasion of June 28, Day International and National Pride, in support of the LGTBI community and their demands. Diego José Mateos has stated that "this year we are in special conditions due to the global pandemic of COVID-19, so that the demands of this LGTBI collective will not flood the streets and squares, but that is not why we are going to stop vindicate and work with the same intensity and the objective of achieving a Society with equal real rights, dignity and respect for all people of the LGTBI collective ". Mateos Molina explained that the agreements in this motion include that the City Council continue to "improve and implement the School Coexistence Plan for equal treatment for LGTBI people, as well as, within municipal powers, urge the government local to provide public libraries with LGTBIQ related bibliographic funds from attitudes of respect and non-discrimination and an approach of diversity and Human Rights ". The First mayor has indicated that "also from the powers of the Consistory will apply all the measures provided for in current legislation against all discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and family diversity, in order to eradicate any type of LGTBIphobia from our society in the family, school, work, social and / or political spheres.

The objective is to make Lorca a hate-free municipality ". The mayor has detailed that "we will also request the Civil Registry to eliminate the discriminatory requirement against female couples, who must be married to register the newborn, and we will launch training programs for Local Public Administration personnel, especially attention to those who work in contact with citizens, and for the Local Police so that it has tools to prevent and detect crimes based on sexual orientation, identity and gender expression.

" At the regional level, from "the Consistory we will demand the development and compliance with the Social Equality Law for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transsexuals, transgender and intersex, and public policies against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the Community Autonomous Region of Murcia, unanimously approved by all groups in the Regional Assembly on the proposal of the PSOE in 2016, and blocked since then.

And at the national level, the City Council will urge the central government to promote the approval of a Law of equal treatment and against discrimination of LGTBI people, which fights against discrimination in the educational, labor, health, public sphere with sufficient budgetary provision for its compliance.

" The Mayor of Lorca has highlighted that, also, with this motion, "we will urge the different public and private institutions to break with the stereotypes that will accompany bisexual, lesbian and transsexual women.

In addition, we will implement prevention campaigns in the field of sexual health for women who have sexual relations with other women and we will promote the socio-labor integration of Trans people and their full participation in political, social and cultural life within the possible work plans of the City Council, and we will carry out a campaign that makes the diversity of orientations visible and non-normative gender identities as it institutionally promotes the main commemorations of the LGTBI movement,especially on May 17 (international day against LGTBIphobia) and June 28 (day of LGTBI Pride and Liberation).

" Finally, the First mayor has referred to "that we will have in Lorca a Plaza called 'Plaza Arcoíris' in which a large and visible sign 'STOPLGTBIFOBIA' will be placed, in which it is remembered that there is one day a year dedicated to this fights "and has insisted that" in this matter we must seek meeting points, solidarity between all sectors of the Society, without forgetting all the steps that have already been taken in this matter, such as the approval of same-sex marriage , of which 15 years have already passed.
