IU criticizes that the Murcian right wing "combats" gambling by benefiting those who promote it (21/07/2020)

| Sosa announces that his group will present a motion to the Plenary session of July to withdraw the tax exemption for bookmakers approved by PP, C´sy Vox at the Regional Assembly | Pedro Sosa, councilor spokesman for Izquierda unida Verdes in the city of Lorca, announced this morning another of the motions that his municipal group will present to the July Plenary, in which he will request that the tax benefits to the bookmakers collected in Decree Law June 19, 2020, approved by the Regional Assembly, which includes fiscal and administrative measures to reactivate the regional economy due to the health crisis caused by Covid-19. In the aforementioned Decree, the gambling tax rates are compensated during the period of inactivity caused by the quarantine, along with a 25% percentage discount of the tax during the entire second semester of the financial year 2020, which which will suppose to the sector, to the detriment of the regional coffers, a saving of 13 million euros. According to Sosa, these beneficial measures for the gaming sector in the Region are related to the pressure that certain very powerful businessmen of the union exert on the autonomous rulers, while the demands of other sectors, such as transport, which has announced a next strike, they are neglected without any regard. Sosa regretted that the Region is the first in Spain in number of betting and gaming venues by number of inhabitants, with a ratio of one bookmaker for every 4088 inhabitants, thus tripling the average for Spain which stands at a hall for every 13,326 inhabitants and has harshly criticized the political formations that in Lorca vote motions against gambling and in the Assembly vote in the opposite direction. For this reason, Sosa advocates for greater control over the gaming sector, such as that undertaken by the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Alberto Garzón, which will impose time restrictions on the advertising of the game (it could only be carried out in the time slot between 1am and 5h in the morning), prohibition of advertising the game on t-shirts or sports equipment (in no case will advertising be allowed through famous people) and prohibition of customer acquisition promotions (welcome bonuses). The resolutions of the motion that will be voted in plenary session will be the following: The City Council of Lorca will formally address the Regional Assembly of Murcia and its parliamentary groups demanding that, by virtue of the arguments presented here, they reconsider the validation of the Decree Law cited in the body of the motion. The local government will review all the agreements adopted in the municipal plenary sessions of Lorca in May 2018 and October 2019 related to the gaming venues in our municipality, proceeding to give effective effect in the shortest possible time to those agreements that have not yet been completed.

implemented today.
