The City Council of Lorca and the agri-food sector will collaborate to disseminate messages to cut the chain of infections by Covid-19 (02/09/2020)

The mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, has highlighted “the importance of this sector also during this pandemic” and has said that he is aware of “the important effort that different companies are making to adopt all the self-protection measures established in the health protocols ”.The mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, met this morning with the president of the Lorca Irrigation Community, Juan Marín, and with the president of COAG, Miguel Padilla, with whom he has discussed the situation that the agri-food sector with respect to Covid-19.Diego José Mateos has stated that “aware of the need to reach all sectors of the population, from the Lorca City Council we are going to continue establishing collaboration channels with agri-food companies to also reach their workers with a greater impact.

In this way, and thanks to this cooperation, all the information that we are disseminating through municipal channels with the 'Lorca takes care of you' campaign will be transmitted by the companies themselves through posters, brochures and explanatory videos ”.The Mayor has reiterated that “in everyone's hands is to help stop the chain of infections, above all, knowing how to act in the event of a possible case of Covid, or what to do if you have symptoms, messages that are already spreading among the General population".Mateos Molina has also referred "to the social coverage that the Consistory is providing through the Department of Social Services for all those people who have to quarantine but who cannot do it at home or who cannot see their needs met basic, for which the Emergency Service and Civil Protection are sending them food so that they do not have to go out to look for it.

And this is where we have to insist, because there are many people who, even being positive for Covid, point out that they cannot stop going to work, putting the rest of their colleagues at risk, because this money is their only livelihood.

"The Mayor has once again emphasized “the important role that the sector and companies have been playing since the beginning of this coronavirus pandemic, on the one hand guaranteeing the supply of all essential products during confinement, in national markets but also in the Europeans, and on the other, adopting all the necessary safety and hygiene measures in their facilities for access control, with taking the temperature, using Epi's, with the extra cost that all this has entailed " .For his part, the president of the Lorca Irrigation Community, Juan Marín, has insisted that “at no time in the agri-food sector has activity stopped due to the pandemic, we have continued working with more force if possible, always knowing that the health of our workers and ours is above all ”.Martín has affirmed that "there have been five months of work in which the sector has not generated any source of contagion, although isolated cases have been registered, we have been giving 110%, in a sector that moves more than 100,000 workers".The president of the Guadalentín community members has been “concerned about what may happen, that is why the companies themselves are taking charge of the costs of the Covid detention tests for workers who return from their vacations or who join the new campaign of broccoli, artichoke or cauliflower, among other products ”.The president of COAG, Miguel Padilla, has reiterated that "from the sector we have not only been adapting health measures, but we have supported them, in direct contact that we maintain with the different administrations".Padilla has influenced "total collaboration for the dissemination of information to workers in the sector in order to correct any problem that may have been detected, for which we will continue working as the first day, always rigorously applying each of the measures to be adopted ”.Finally, in this way the information campaign posters will be sent to the companies, which has been published in several languages: Spanish, English, French and Arabic so that all workers can access the content, regardless of the language they speak.
