| Francisco Javier Martínez: "We do not want more" handouts "that the only thing they generate is frustration | It is not about reductions in municipal taxes and fees, something that from the Popular Party we anticipate that we will demand that they be included in the next fiscal ordinances, a measure that would be added to the line of aid that we will propose in the next plenary session of the municipal council "The Councilor for Commerce in the town hall of Lorca for the Popular Party, Francisco Javier Martínez, has reported that the PP will propose the immediate activation of a line of "direct and fast" municipal subsidies of up to 2,000 euros for all those merchants , hoteliers and SMEs that have seen their sales income reduced by 40% in recent months due to the socioeconomic and labor crisis that the municipality suffers as a result of the restrictions caused by Covid-19.The current situation that this sector suffers in our municipality is extremely serious, probably the worst in its history, and from the Popular Party we are going to propose that the response offered by the city council be in accordance with the circumstances.

We propose the establishment of a battery of direct aid, which constitutes a real and effective support to these professionals.

This is a measure that follows the lines established in the Lorca Responde Plan, which the PP already proposed months ago, but which the current local government rejected, betting on a system of "handouts and tips" that has failed miserably.In addition to being unsuccessful, this model has been useless, since today the beneficiaries have not seen a single penny.

Aid that arrives late is of no use, and we cannot allow the city council to make the same mistakes as a few months ago.We are talking about direct and complementary municipal aid to those that can be implemented by the rest of the public administrations.

We do not want more "handouts" that the only thing they generate is frustration.

It is not, in any case, about supposed cuts in municipal taxes and fees, something that the Popular Party already anticipates today that we are going to demand that they be included in the next tax ordinances, a measure that would be added to the line of aid that We will propose in the next plenary session of the municipal council.From the Popular Group we believe that there is no better way to use the municipal savings of 6.5 million euros that we have managed to retain in Lorca despite the intentions of the current mayor to send it to Pedro Sánchez, than to use it to finance the aid that our merchants , hoteliers and SMEs so much need.Along with this savings, and the remaining treasury that amounts to 12 million euros, the city council has the savings that have been registered in the municipal coffers because the different items of events such as Easter, Fairs, Sepor, have not been spent.

Fericab, closing of swimming pools, services and sports facilities ...The reality is that the city council can do more, much more, because today it has more money than ever.

In fact, they announced that they had mobilized an economic item of one million euros for hoteliers and merchants, but we can see that to date only 388 applications have been approved, which represents a third of the applications submitted and a ridiculous amount of 195,000 euros.

Taking into account that 800,000 euros are going to be spent on cars, the figures reveal that the current local government is going to spend 4 times more on cars than on aid for people.It is clear that some measures have resulted that have been neither interesting nor immediate, as the numbers indicate this: in a city with a population greater than 96,000 inhabitants, only 982 applications have been submitted.

Therefore, there would still be 800,000 euros available of that million euros.The result of this appalling management is causing a social and economic crisis whose effects threaten to be devastating, putting at serious risk the continuity of thousands of small and medium-sized companies, family businesses, self-employment, and paid jobs.

Behind the cold statistics that we hear every day of closed businesses and establishments, there are families with names and surnames suffering minute by minute that they have been left to their own devices after spending many years trading and creating wealth.Along with the municipal measures, we can do more from municipalism.

Thus, we demand that the city council formally request the government of Spain to extend the ERTE, as claimed by the sector, at least until April 2021, and that the reduction of the VAT of the hotel industry to 4% be applied, following the positive experience that It has been applied in several European countries.We also propose that a shock measure be made immediately effective so that the city's hoteliers can double their terraces.

And that the technical services study the possibility of allowing the installation of watchmen for all those hoteliers who do not have terrace service, yes, always trying to reconcile the hotel business with the respect and rest of the neighbors.
