IU-V denounces the unsustainable situation of the historic and emblematic Cava de Lorca street (30/09/2020)

| Abandoned properties, facades of very little historical value that remain propped up for years and years, unsafe buildings and lots full of garbage | Pedro Sosa answers the call of several residents of Cava street who denounce the municipal abandonment of that environment The Municipal Group of IU in Lorca has intensified in the almost year and a half that we have been the current corporation its initiatives aimed at dignifying and tidying up public space.

We are suffering (and also projecting on those who visit us) a deplorable image of the city, with the situation of abandonment in which there are hundreds of lots scattered throughout our urban area.

These plots are products of the real estate crisis that in recent decades has hit Spain in general and this municipality in particular, as stated by IU councilor Pedro Sosa, from the fateful earthquakes of 2011 that, almost a decade later, they are still more present than they should in our urban reality.

And, Sosa abounds, this problem is especially acute in the historical-artistic complex of Lorca. Sosa maintains that IU has brought proposals to the City Council to provide us with a Plot Ordinance, multiple specific initiatives related to the need to clean lots in very different areas of the city of Lorca, its neighborhoods and also sometimes its districts.

IU-V has defended its proposals by appealing to the mandates of urban planning laws and the protection of historical heritage that are being breached by property owners and plots, but also, in a subsidiary way, there is a municipal responsibility for their lack of action before the inaction of the owners. Today, the IU-V Spokesperson wanted to locate all this set of complaints in one of the most emblematic streets of the historic heart of the city of Lorca; Cava street.

A journey with extraordinary potential if it were to be valued, but which, in Sosa's opinion, is the most paradigmatic and sad image of the abandonment to which the historic center of the city has been subjected for years, an abandonment that has some very responsible clear: those who have ruled in the past decades and those who govern today. Several residents of Calle Cava have taught Lorca journalists called on that journey the problems arising from the abandonment and lack of cleaning of many buildings and lots.

An abandonment that generates unhealthy conditions, danger of elements falling onto public roads, insecurity, deterioration of neighboring properties and surroundings.

Sosa has affirmed that in Cava Street, in other times very populous, at present there are hardly more than a dozen families that should be pampered by the City Council, but that the only thing they receive from the local power is silence and abandonment. Sosa claims that there has been enough public money, both in past decades, when the historic area of ??Lorca was abandoned and all efforts focused on speculation, and in the current years in which the funds for the restoration of Lorca have been spent.

very inefficiently.

There has been enough money, but, says Sosa, there has been little political intelligence of local rulers to spend it.
