The Lorca City Council reaffirms its firm commitment to the development of the University Campus on the tenth anniversary of its opening (03/10/2020)

The mayor of the University, María Ángeles Mazuecos, highlights that "the Faculty of Social Health Sciences of the University of Murcia wants to be a pioneer in training, research and gerontological assistance, thanks to the Center that the Poncemar Foundation is building in these facilities." The Councilor for the University of the City Council of Lorca, María Ángeles Mazuecos, highlighted "the close relationship that exists between the Lorca City Council and the Lorca University Campus, which this Sunday will celebrate the tenth anniversary of its opening in our municipality and which we congratulate for this commemoration.

" The University Councilor stressed that "since we arrived at the Government team we were clear that we wanted to change the situation in recent years in which Lorca had lived with his back to the Campus of Lorca and the time had come to change strategy.

We look at how main objective to bring this educational institution closer to Lorca society, for this, from the Government team we are working tirelessly to give a new impulse to the University Campus with the intention of making it part of the cultural and educational offer of our city ", and recalled" the determined commitment that we always made so that this institution could settle in our municipality.

" María Ángeles Mazuecos recalled that "within this line of collaboration, the City Council has granted the Poncemar Foundation a plot of 5,000 square meters within the campus of the Health Sciences Campus for the construction of a Training and Research Center Scientific, which will be completed in November and will house facilities for student research, which will allow the UMU Faculty of Social Health Sciences to be a pioneer in training, research and gerontological assistance ". Mazuecos Moreno has detailed that "this center will allow Nursing, Dietetics and Nutrition students to carry out their internships and do so in a real environment.

In addition, Poncemar also has planned the construction of a Day Center for the elderly in this building, and which is scheduled to open its doors early next year, all with a planned investment of more than 616,000 euros ". The mayor of the University recalled that "during this new 2020/2021 academic year, the Lorca university campus offers a double degree in Sports and Nutrition, in addition to continuing to give firm steps to achieve that the degree of Occupational Therapy is imparted, during the academic year 2021/2022, in what would already be the fourth degree ". In addition, various collaboration agreements have been promoted, one of them pioneering, such as the one signed between the University Campus, through the Faculty of Nutrition and the primary sector of the municipality, our farmers and ranchers, the engine of the local economy.

As well as other actions that have led to new collaborations between the Lorca City Council and this entity, such as a volunteer agreement, the beginning of the works of the Poncemar Day Center or the different conferences that the campus organizes in the Cultural Center of the City. "Within the line of approach, the Lorca University Campus to society, the educational institution has been involved in different solidarity initiatives, some of them related to the health crisis we are experiencing and which has consisted of the donation of sanitary material to the Rafael Méndez hospital in the city, "explained Mazuecos. The councilor for the University has also referred "to the arrangement of the facade of the main building of the university center, badly damaged by the earthquakes of May 2011, the repair of this facade, which belongs to the historic pavilion of the military barracks 'Sancho Dávila'.
