The mayors of Lorca and Totana ask the Regional Government for more health means and priority in aid to reduce the number of Covid infections in both municipalities (06/10/2020)

"From the City Councils we are assuming competences that are not ours and which we have to face with the few resources and municipal means" and, therefore, it has again requested "the Government of the Region of Murcia to expedite the aid and prioritize the most affected municipalities ". The mayors of Lorca and Totana, Diego José Mateos and Juan José Cánovas, held a working meeting this morning in the Totanero Consistory to take stock of the coronavirus situation in both municipalities. Both mayors have asked the Government of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, jointly, "priority when receiving financial aid" and "more health means for the municipalities most affected by the pandemic." Diego José Mateos has requested "more material and personal means for Health Area 3 to equate ourselves with the rest of the areas since we are talking about one of the great forgotten areas, the Cinderella of the health areas in the Region of Murcia, with deficiencies that already existed before this crisis and that now becomes even more evident since it offers health care to the municipalities of Lorca, Totana, Águilas, Puerto Lumbreras and Aledo ". The mayor of Lorca has insisted on the need to "prioritize the sending of resources to those municipalities with the highest percentage of cases due to Covid and that are confined.

We are talking about making rapid tests available to our toilets to speed up obtaining results.

". In addition, Mateos recalled that "from the City Council of Lorca we have been asking the Murcian Health Service for several weeks to advance the flu vaccination campaign since it represents a very important step since it means reducing the healthcare pressure to which our health workers are they are facing due to this pandemic and to which we do not want the cases of common flu to also add ". Mateos Molina has highlighted that "in Lorca the confinement measures are being complied with, thanks also to the police controls that are reflected in the statistics and in which we find that small group, of 1 percent who do not comply with the measures security, which puts the rest of the population in check.

" For his part, the Mayor of Totana has detailed that "we request the Regional Government the commitment to prioritize resources in those populations in which there is a greater number of people affected by coronavirus, as is currently the case in both Totana and Lorca." Juan José Cánovas has highlighted the "problem that a high percentage of those infected in the municipality reside in homes with an occupancy much higher than their real capacity" and has proposed "to take into account the existence of a multitude of closed homes both to revitalize the city ??to try to alleviate this situation.

" Cánovas has insisted that "it is necessary to inform our neighbors, the Regional Government, the sole health command, must explain the situation in which we find ourselves and make decisions.

But being in and out of temporary confinements involves serious problems and confusion in our citizens ". The mayors have highlighted that "from the City Councils we are assuming competences that are not ours and which we have to deal with with the few resources and municipal means" and, therefore, has again requested "the Government of the Region of Murcia to speed up aid and prioritize the most affected municipalities.
