IU Lorca requests the intervention of the Virgen del Alcázar so that users and workers have the necessary means to face the Covid-19 outbreak (07/10/2020)

Pedro Sosa and Gloria Martín demand that the Ministry of Health not wash its hands, allowing the management of this center to manage the epidemiological crisis according to its own criteria and deciding what resources to use.

They also denounced that this private-concerted hospital made its first public statement on Sunday, a day after the news jumped to the media and when they had been mobilizing patients since Thursday The councilors of Izquierda Unida-Verdes Lorca, Pedro Sosa and Gloria Martín, have demanded from the Regional Government Health Department the "intervention" of the Virgen del Alcázar hospital to guarantee the "containment" of Covid-19 infections and ensure that users and workers "have all the necessary means to deal with the outbreak." Gloria Martín argued that these are not "clients" of a private hospital who decide to enter it voluntarily, but users of public health affected by referrals from the Murcian Health Service (SMS) through a health agreement, "so We understand that counseling cannot wash its hands and allow the management of this center to manage the outbreak according to its own criteria and deciding what resources to use.

" For his part, Pedro Sosa explained that the proof that both the patients referred to this private center and the workers do not have the same guarantees as those treated in the public hospital, is that he himself has undergone two identical surgical interventions, and while in the one last July, carried out at the Rafael Méndez, "I had all kinds of preoperative tests, including a PCR," for which he was performed last Thursday at the Virgen del Alcázar, "I only had a blood test and no coronavirus test.

" Sosa, who thanked the "exquisite treatment" and the "professionalism" of both medical and nursing teams, assured that what happened has nothing to do with the lack of solvency of the workers, "but rather with deficiencies in management and with the regional government's interest in covering up and protecting friendly companies that are never held accountable.

" Gloria Martín also questioned the "transparency" of the private hospital since her first statement on the outbreak was issued on Sunday, October 4, at 12:00, a day after the news had jumped to the media and when the hospital had been mobilizing patients four days earlier. Martín explained that last Thursday, the hospital ordered the change of room of several patients what they call sectorization without giving further explanations and without indicating to the relatives and caregivers who continued to accompany them during the following hours, who were actually grouping in a plant to those patients who were suspected of being infected. The councilor of IU-Verdes echoed the complaints of relatives who learned of the positive for Covid-19 of the patients "on Saturday, by a phone call from the Murcian Health Service (SMS) and not by the private hospital" . "We are talking about a virus that can be lethal and that is extremely contagious, so we believe that there may have been a negligent attitude when it comes to not alerting family members and caregivers in time when, according to the hospital itself, since Wednesday 30 already they were aware of the problem, "said Martín.

"We fear that days that were key for workers, family members and caregivers, to have the opportunity to be on alert and limit their social contacts to avoid the spread of the virus if they are already infected," he said.

Martín assured that an "outbreak" that affects 64 people, 44 patients, 15 workers and five companions, "does not appear overnight"and insisted on the need to investigate the event made public by his political training last Monday "because we have suspicions that there were already cases of Covid-19 in the Virgen del Alcázar before the 30th" and it was not acted on properly.

"If we want to improve the protocols against the virus and protect people, especially those who fight against it on the front line, the ethical thing is not to throw dirt on the errors" because then, "they will be repeated", he warned."they will be repeated again," he warned."they will be repeated again," he warned. Sosa and Martín also denounced the referral of patients from the reference hospital, the Rafael Méndez, to the Virgen del Alcázar, "without waiting for the results of the PCR," as the private center itself has recognized.

In this regard, Sosa criticized the statements made yesterday by the president of the regional government, Fernando López Miras, in which he assured "that everything is under control" when the epidemiological situation in Lorca is "more than worrying" and the management that Covid is doing -19 "is not exactly reassuring."
