The PP proposes to concentrate municipal financial aid to the Holy Week brotherhoods to promote the activity of embroidery workshops (07/10/2020)

Francisco Javier Martínez: "We consider it necessary that instead of totally eliminating the aid, the Steps have financial resources to increase activity in their respective workshops.

It is about taking care of the authentic cradle of Lorca art."The Councilor for Culture in the town hall of Lorca for the Popular Party, Francisco Javier Martínez, has proposed that the municipal contribution that the consistory has annually with the Steps of our Holy Week be maintained to be concentrated on enhancing the artistic work of their respective workshops of embroidery.

We must consider the possibility that the processions cannot be held next year either, but we do not want the Pasos to lose completely, for example, the municipal subsidy for procession expenses, but that it can be used in part for embroidery workshops .Francisco Javier Martínez has explained that our brotherhoods and brotherhoods are suffering deep uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic that has led them, among other circumstances, to find themselves obliged to suspend all acts of our social, cultural and festive celebration.

important: the biblical-passionate processions and parades of our Holy Week.Looking ahead to next year, the evolution of infections and the pandemic in general will determine what can happen, although being realistic, the current context does not raise much hope in this regard.

Given the situation, from the Popular Party we propose that municipal subsidies are not withdrawn, but that efforts be concentrated on helping our Pasos to continue with the work that is developed for the maintenance and conservation of the different elements of the procession and the artistic heritage they possess, as well as, in a special way, that the work that takes place in the different embroidery workshops continues. We share the unease that exists in our Steps and we believe that this measure would help to help them.

In fact, we have transferred our initiative to them in advance to see if they considered it appropriate, and we must say that the support has been unanimous.

When we talk about helping the embroidery workshops not stop, we are also talking about maintaining jobs, working to enhance the artistic treasure of our embroideries and, ultimately, consolidating the candidacy of the Lorquino Embroidery and its Staging in the Parades Biblical-Passionals of Holy Week for its declaration as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.The Covid cannot stop the work of the embroidery workshops, but we have to try to make a virtue of necessity and centralize all the economic effort of the city council to support our embroiderers.

It is clear that we would all like to enjoy our processions again as soon as possible, but while the conditions that allow it are not in place, let's take advantage of the time so that the artistic creation that is born from the hands of the embroiderers and the design of the artistic directors do not stop.
