| The Popular Party awarded the consolidation works of the retaining wall and began the expropriation of the site | Those affected do not deserve the abandonment they suffer from the current local government; is a monument to ineptitude The deputy spokesman for the Popular Party in the Lorca town hall, Ángel Meca, has described it as "unpresentable" that the current mayor once again delays the works for the stabilization and consolidation of Portijico, which should be completed this month, but not even have begun.
Late-coming solutions can be anything but solutions.

Mateos found all the work done, in the absence of starting the work, and he has been doing nothing for 16 months, and now what we have found is an official request from Mr.
Mateos to continue delaying them. Ángel Meca has stated that this operation was a real challenge, taking into account the complex procedures that we had to carry out, in which different municipal areas participated, and the extreme complexity of the technical solution that we had to articulate, also requiring the supervision of external experts. The investment of the regional government of the Popular Party in the improvement of the San Cristóbal neighborhood exceeds 7 million euros, as the current mayor has had to acknowledge, who has forgotten to inform which one is going to do the town hall.
Instead of throwing stones and hiding his hand, Mr.
Mateos should be showing some gratitude, because the only works that are being carried out in our municipality are those that we are promoting and financing thanks to the management of the PP. The case of the consolidation of Calle Portijico constitutes the most emblematic example of the dire management that the current mayor is making the residents of San Cristóbal suffer.
Before starting the work, they are already delaying it.
It is of a degree of incompetence that only the current local government can achieve.
This is unpresentable.
Mr Mateos is 16 months late and is unable to start the works, despite publicly announcing that the works were to begin in August. We have been asking the current local government for 16 months to start the works that we have already awarded from the Popular Party, and which includes the consolidation of the existing retaining wall, having also started the procedures for the expropriation of the site.
We are talking about a comprehensive urban improvement intervention in the surroundings of Calle Portijico that will allow the consolidation of the existing retaining wall, the creation of a new green area on the current site and the renovation of Calle Gregorio García. From the PP we managed to carry out the beginning of the processing of the hiring file related to the stabilization works of the wall located on a plot between Gregorio García and Portijico streets, located in the San Cristóbal neighborhood, an action to which we added the expropriation of the existing lot to provide the neighborhood with a new green area with a vertical garden, following the model that has given such good results in the Plaza de la Hermandad de la Curia. This is a priority action and it should already be completed so that the families that reside outside their homes can begin the rehabilitation of the homes and return as soon as possible.
The works that we require to start all at once consist of stabilizing the existing reinforced concrete wall, through the execution of anchors to the ground, and its continuation until finishing in another reinforced concrete wall of lower height to secure the homes, and in the one that has been foreseen the expansion of the same until the level of the street Gregorio García. In parallel, from the PP we also began the expropriation procedure of this site to build a green area in the heart of the San Cristóbal neighborhood.
This action includes the construction of a public park and a hanging garden with the aim of decorating the wall.
In addition, within the remodeling project for Calle Portijico, an item to consolidate Calle Gregorio García is included. Thanks to the Popular Party, over the last few years more than a hundred streets in the San Cristóbal neighborhood have been the object of investments, including the comprehensive improvement of Calle Mayor and Ortega Melgares (715,000 euros), as well as Eulogio Periago (€ 712,000) including the latter in an injection of 7.5 million for the comprehensive repair of a battery of 58 streets.
In addition to the above, the works managed by the PP have allowed the improvement of 46 other streets in the same neighborhood.
It should be noted that in San Cristóbal we also carried out the works on Charco Street, responding to the commitment we expressed to the neighbors, involving an investment of 358,333.70 euros.
Other examples have been the urban renewal of Charco and Adyacentes streets,as well as the improvement of accessibility between the streets Ingeniero Agustín Betancourt and Mayor Pelegrín Rodríguez.
