We are talking about a fact that has raised a deep concern in all the neighbors.

We have been warning for a long time that the public security situation in Lorca, in general, is getting worse. The model that existed with the Fulgencio Gil mayor's office worked, and responded to the needs that existed at all times.

However, the arrival of the PSOE has brought down a system that guaranteed results, and destroyed the operational scheme of the Local Police, leaving the municipality unprotected. Within this operating scheme, Fulgencio Gil established a police force with the presence of agents patrolling at the foot of the street permanently in the San Cristóbal neighborhood, a resource that was in progress until the current mayor ordered its withdrawal unilaterally, leaving the neighbors helpless, and without establishing any alternative of security to the residents of the area. Last Tuesday we were forced to report what was happening at the hands of the neighbors themselves, who today ask us to report what is happening, because they have gone from restlessness to fear, and they no longer dare to go out at night to throw away the garbage.

The neighborhood hurts us. The unfortunate events in the last few hours lead us to demand, once again, that the city council immediately proceed to regain permanent police presence with agents patrolling the streets on foot, as Fulgencio Gil did.

This decision, which we consider cannot be postponed, has to be accompanied by a deep reflection on the prevention and safety model that Lorca deserve.

It is evident that where the agents have to be is in the streets, not enclosed within four walls, and that is what the neighbors also ask of us. We reach out to all political groups with municipal representation with the aim of reaching an agreement on citizen security that includes the recovery of foot patrols in the neighborhood so that citizens feel safe.
