LIFEM values ??the leadership and fundamental role of women in the livestock sector (29/10/2020)

| The conference held within the framework of the Sepor Fair, highlighted its importance as a driver of change and transformation 4.0 of the rural world | Training, union and joint development are some of the keys to the future Valuing the leadership of women in the livestock sector, providing visibility to their work and recognizing the role they play in a world dominated by men, are some of the objectives of the round table of the LIFEM movement, held at the framework of the Sepor Fair, in which the livestock, industrial and agri-food sector is represented at the national level. The protagonists of this edition have been: Margarita Arboix, rector of the Autonomous University of Barcelona; Silvia Húmera, representing Zoetis Spain; Lucía Velasco, coordinator of the Asturian Cattle Association; Lucía Martín, head of Communication and institutional relations of the Union of Bullfighters of Lidia; and Elisa Plumed, president of the Association of Agrifood Journalists of Spain (APAE); moderated by Mar Abenza, President of LIFEM and Director of Marevents, promoter of this project that places the value of equal opportunities through Female Leadership. Mar Abenza, Entrepreneur of the Year 2016 award and director of the Marevents Group, recently recognized with the Equality Badge, highlighted during the presentation that "women, traditionally, have had a very important role in the livestock, industrial and agri-food sectors, working in small and large businesses or farms, but it is, at this time, in which women take a step forward leading these projects.

", and added" that is why we are here, at this LIFEM table, to value talent and female leadership of these women leaders, and give them the visibility they deserve as innovators and promoters of this livestock, industrial and agri-food sector; women from all over Spain ". The first to speak was Margarita Arboix, rector of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ??member of the European Committee for Veterinary Medicines of the European Medicines Agency, who highlighted the importance of training as a key element for the development of rural women.

Arboix advocated strengthening both training and research, to empower women and make them more independent and competitive. Silvia Húmera, on behalf of Zoetis Spain, explained the Female Livestock project, which values ??the work of these women, and assured that their work, from cattle ranchers, veterinarians and engineers, to researchers and businesswomen "represents about 40 percent of family labor in the agribusiness sector, however, only 32 percent of the ownership of farms falls on them "and added that" this figure that decreases to about 25 percent, when we refer to holders farm managers ".

Zoetis is one of the leading international companies in this sector. For her part, Lucía Velasco, winner of the Excellence Award for Innovation for Rural Women awarded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, and also a Young Rural Woman Cattle Award 2018, presented the Asturian Cattle Project, of which she is coordinator. This project, according to Lucía Velasco, arose after a serious incident in her livestock, which led her to claim the need for veterinary first aid training, in addition to creating communication channels to stay informed and establish collaboration channels: as a website for cattle ranchers or a WhatsApp group in order to "train them, give them a voice and visibility, as well as promote each other's products to sell online as a result of the mobility consequences of COVID-19". The next to intervene was Lucía Martín, a journalist who currently holds the position of director of communication and institutional relations of the Union of Breeders of Lidia Bulls, a European association that represents the most important fighting bull farmers, as well as coordinator of Alianza Rural .

Martín explained the actions carried out by the Union of Breeders, focusing on the ecological and environmental aspects of fighting bull breeding.

He also highlighted the importance of the union of women in the rural world for growth and joint development. Finally, Elisa Plumed, president of the Association of Agrifood Journalists of Spain (APAE), emphasized "the importance of communicating how food is produced because the citizen does not know it." He pointed out that until recently, the agri-food sector, and among them the rancher, "has not communicated because they had no need or considered it necessary" and added that "all those who intervene in the food chain, must tell what their job is, how they do it and why, so that the consumer knows the importance of it ". LIFEM LIFEM is consolidated as a social movement that seeks, through the implementation of projects and different types of initiatives, to promote, claim and give visibility to equal opportunities in the world of work, through the female leadership of women in the 21st century. This movement, which was born in Murcia two years ago, celebrating the first Women's Leadership Forum in Spain, continued to support the National Dragon Boat BCS Spain team, made up of women from teams from Cantabria and Murcia, who have overcome breast cancer .

Today it is considered the main meeting point for Female Leadership in Spain, which includes personalities, companies and institutions committed to enhancing female talent, equality and parity through the development of their CSR policies.

. The objective of the LIFEM movement is to sensitize and value female leadership in all areas, fulfilling an informative and formative role that subjects the traditional leadership model to debate and recognizes all those people, whether men or women, who by their example , day by day, they make society aware of the need to give female leadership the place it deserves.
