The PP demands that the musealization of the Guevara Palace be expedited (04/11/2020)

| So that Lorca does not lose the investment of 400,000 euros reserved by the Regional Government | • The project has been blocked for a year and a half, and now, 18 months later, they have realized that they had not even applied for the grant.

They are jeopardizing that the jobs can be completed in the established time.

In fact, it has not yet been tendered, and after this process it will still have to be awarded and executed, all this will have to be completed in just 13 months, or the subsidy would be lost. The Councilor for Citizen Participation in the city of Lorca for the Popular Party, Mari Huertas García, has requested that the municipal council expedite all the necessary procedures to start as soon as possible the museum project of the Guevara Palace, which has not yet been even Tendered and must be completed in 13 months, otherwise Lorca would lose the investment of 400,000 euros that we get from the Lorca PP by our regional government. García Pérez has proposed that the city council give priority to this action, since we are talking about one of the most important works that should already be carried out for the improvement of our monumental heritage, and that would precisely complete the enormous work recovery and rehabilitation that the Popular Party has carried out during its years of management at the head of our Municipal Council. The museumization of the Guevara Palace has to be tendered as soon as possible, because we are practically out of the deadline, and losing this money would also mean losing a historic opportunity.

We do not consider it logical that the current mayor accumulates 17 months without having had time to worry about this project, which, at least, he should have already awarded, since time has been thrown on him and he is putting this action at risk. We have to take into account that after the tender of the project will have to arrive its award and, then, the development of the necessary interventions.

Among the latter, it is worth mentioning the installation of new explanatory signage for both the building itself and the elements that comprise it, as well as the provision of an air conditioning system in accordance with the idiosyncrasy of the building, flooring protection systems and display cabinets, as well of the incorporation of the necessary infrastructure for the installation of a system that protects the Palace from weather incidents and allows the use of its central courtyard throughout the year. Mari Huertas García has indicated that the lack of speed that the current mayor is showing with the projects and investments in matters of historical heritage that from the Popular Party of Lorca we leave facts and with the reserved financing is putting at risk that the money committed can finally be reaching our city, something that is happening both with the musealization of the Guevara Palace and with the consolidation of the hydraulic complex of the Escaranbrujo Mill. Mari Huertas García recalled that precisely the objective that Concepción Sandoval was pursuing when he bequeathed this Palace to the city council was that it become a Museum.

It should be noted that the Guevara house-palace was built over a long period of time until it adopted its final form thanks to the reforms carried out between 1691 and 1705 by Don Juan de Guevara García de Alcaraz, knight of the Order of Santiago from 1689.

In 1691 the main staircase is finished and in 1694 the portal is dated, Unknown the name of the tracist, although those of Bussy or Caballero among others have been considered, what is clear is that the typical scheme of the altarpieces of Solomonic columns of the time, replacing the religious representations by the heraldry of the family.
