| It will mean an increase in connectivity between Lorca and Águilas and the improvement of access to the coast | The Community inaugurates the new accessible and green pedestrian leisure space in Lorca thanks to the curving of the Rambla de Las Chatas The Ministry of Development and Infrastructures begins next week the urban renewal works of the San Antonio neighborhood of Lorca, which includes the construction of an underpass under the existing roundabout on the RM-11 road, to eliminate traffic jams that affect mobility so much between the neighborhood and the urban center of Lorca.

This action has an execution period of 11 months. The regional Executive qualifies this action of regional interest, since it will mean an improvement in communication between the municipalities of Lorca and Águilas by increasing connectivity and access to the coast of Águilas, which will benefit the mobility of Lorca's residents, tourists and visitors from this zone. The counselor José Ramón Díez de Revenga made this announcement during the inauguration of a new accessible and green pedestrian leisure space that has been generated after covering the Las Chatas promenade, an action that completes the comprehensive renovation of the La Salud-Cristo Rey neighborhood of Lorca, and that has meant an investment that exceeds two million euros. "This action is much more than a repair of damage from the earthquake, it is an authentic transformation of the neighborhood with which we once again show the commitment of the regional government to build a new Lorca," said the counselor, who noted that "we have achieved a a more functional neighborhood, more commercial, better connected and more dedicated to the welfare of the neighbor ". Díez de Revenga said that now the neighborhood has more than 1,000 square meters of new green and leisure areas dedicated to promoting healthy and sporting life and areas for the enjoyment of residents. The channeling of the promenade has also made it possible to expand Torrecillas street, which becomes two-way, and increase the number of car parks.

In addition, pedestrian accessibility to the school located in that area is improved. Specifically, the works have covered a section of the promenade and, once channeled, a pedestrian zone has been made.

The drainage system consists of a buried tunnel 265 meters long, with a reinforced concrete frame.

The action will allow the drainage of the avenue flow. Protagonism of the pedestrian The counselor stressed that this urban action "recovers the role of the pedestrian in the neighborhood", in which the sidewalks have been renovated to facilitate accessibility.

Also, preference has been given to bicycles in order to achieve a more sustainable city, which is in line with the Sustainable Architecture and Construction Strategy (EACS) promoted by the regional Executive. "We improved the connection between neighborhoods thanks to the creation of a new road that connects it with the La Viña neighborhood," explained the regional official, who indicated that a new deterrent car park has been created thanks to the bending of the promenade. The works have also involved modernizing public infrastructures with innovative criteria for energy efficiency and minimum maintenance costs.

Thus, the supply services, sanitation, rain systems, irrigation, lighting, low voltage, telecommunications and gas have been renewed.
