Mateos has buried his electoral promise to launch the Neighborhood Councils on January 1, 2020, and breaches even the agreement with Ciudadanos that contemplates the activation of these entities to complete the third decentralization process.The Councilor for Citizen Participation in the Lorca town hall for the Popular Party, Mari Huertas García, has publicly denounced this morning that the current mayor has banished citizen participation in all municipal actions; no meeting of the Social Council of the City has been held, nor of its Permanent Deputation, and it has also eliminated all the informational meetings that had been held to inform residents of the improvement works in their neighborhoods and collect their suggestions so that were included in the final projects.The setback that citizens are suffering in this regard is more than evident, and we cannot continue like this.

Mr.

Mateos has erased any possibility of citizen participation, in such a way that today Lorca suffers a serious and worrying setback in this regard.

To this day, citizens do not have any mechanism for direct participation in municipal management, the opportunity to decide what to do with their taxes has been taken away from them.

Why has Mr.

Mateos charged the meetings that the city council did with the residents of the areas that were going to be the object of works so that they would have the opportunity to make their contributions? Neighbors deserve to present their ideas in this regard, but Mr.

Mateos does not like citizen participation.Special mention deserves the failure to comply with the measure that Mr.

Mateos announced as his great electoral promise, and that at the moment of truth has become a great lie, as is the constitution and implementation of the Neighborhood Councils.

The current mayor repeatedly stated that he would activate these entities of citizen representation and even set a date, literally indicating that "my government will put into operation the Neighborhood and District Boards in neighborhoods and districts of Lorca on January 1, 2020" (13 / 05/2019 and repeats them on September 24).Moreover, even the pact that Mr.

Mateos made with Citizens to be mayor indicates, verbatim that "We will implement the regulation of Neighborhood and District Boards in compliance with the Law of Large Population Municipalities in order to enable democratic appointments of the mayors and mayors pedáneos and, ultimately, increase the channels of neighborhood participation ".

It is another example that confirms the lack of word of Mr.

Mateos with the processes of citizen participation, and confirms that he has deceived Lorca.

He said for years that he supported neighborhood meetings, but as soon as he got the chair, he turned his back on the people.Faced with this attitude of Mr.

Mateos we are finding the same complaint everywhere, with arguments that seem traced, that reflect a general discontent.

People are frustrated and feel cheated, and that is why they want Neighborhood Councils to be formed as soon as possible to be able to take direct sides in decisions that have to do with their neighborhoods or districts.The neighbors are telling us that the Neighborhood Councils have to be constituted now and at the same time, and not only where the current mayor deems it appropriate.

We, from the Popular Party, support the approach that the neighbors put us, and we reject any other possibility that is not the one that Lorca themselves want.The people of Lorca today demand with more force than ever the constitution of the Neighborhood Councils with the aim of directly deciding on the operation of the places where they reside, but they clash with the reality that Ciudadanos and PSOE have blocked the development of the Policies of Citizen Participation in our municipal term because they do not finish seeing it clearly, and we do not want to think that after all that they have promised and criticized, they now pretend that we all forget their unfulfilled statements and commitments.
